See Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's First Kiss as Husband and Wife

They have now been pronounced husband and wife!

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have officially tied the knot, and they sealed the deal with a very public (and very romantic) kiss, right in front of the world.

As any royal fan knows, the big public kiss post-marriage is always a production. For Prince Wililam and Kate Middleton at their 2011 royal wedding, it took place on a large balcony as adoring fans looked on. Prince Charles and Princess Diana were the ones to originally begin the tradition of balcony kisses, but this time around, that didn’t exactly happen.

For Meghan and Harry, it was a little different, namely because unlike Buckingham Palace, there is no balcony in sight at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle. Still, the moment on the steps of the chapel gave onlookers an equally iconic moment to remember.

But wait, was it really Meghan and Harry’s first kiss? By all accounts, it was, because if the rules still stand as they did for William and Kate, kissing in the Church of England is strictly prohibited—even at weddings.

“There will be no kiss during the wedding ceremony,” Very Reverend Dr. John Hall, the Dean of Westminster explained of royal kisses back in 2011, according to ExtraTV. “We don’t do that in the Church of England. That’s sort of a Hollywood thing: ‘You may now kiss the bride.’ It doesn’t happen here.”

Meghan and Harry finished their royal wedding with a kiss no less public, though, and it was a picture perfect moment. Congratulations to the happy couple on their big day.
