Shayne Ward ‘tops I’m A Celeb’s most wanted list’ after tragic Corrie suicide
Shayne Ward is reportedly top of the most wanted list for the next series of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!
It’s said that bosses are desperate to get the former X Factor winner into the jungle after his character’s tragic suicide on Coronation Street .
Shayne, who played Aidan Connor in the ITV soap, left fans devastated last week when he took his own life following a secret battle with depression.
But he could return to the channel very soon if I’m A Celeb producers get their way.
A show insider told The Sun : "Shayne has built up a huge and loyal fan base at Corrie and his exit storyline has been talked about up and down the country.
"But behind the scenes he’s also considered one of the nicest men in soap with a quirky sense of humour that would work well in the jungle camp. We think he’s an obvious choice for the new series as he ticks a lot of boxes.
"It would also give him a chance of letting fans get to know him a bit more as he continues his career away from Weatherfield."
If Shayne, who was at the BAFTA TV Awards in London tonight, takes part, he’d follow in the footsteps of his former co-star Jennie McAlpine who had a stint in the jungle last year.
Other names reportedly being sought by show execs include Saturday star Frankie Bridge, whose husband Wayne has been there done that, former Strictly Come Dancing pro Brendan Cole, Paddy McGuinnes’ wife Christine, and TOWIE star Gemma Collins, who famously quit after just a few days Down Under.
The show has been hosted by Ant and Dec since it began, and bosses are yet to confirm what will happen following Ant McPartlin’s drink-drive charge.
He returned to host the show last year following a stint in rehab.
But after being involved in a road accident while he was drink-driving and another stint in rehab, it’s unclear at this stage if he’ll be on the show.
Dec Donnelly hosted the final two episodes of Saturday Night Takeaway without Ant and will host the Britain’s Got Talent live shows alone as well.
Mirror Online has contacted ITV for comment.
