Steph McGovern: BBC Breakfast host mocks co-star’s gift for baby ‘I’d be disappointed’
Steph McGovern became a mum at the start of November, one month after leaving BBC Breakfast for her own show on Channel 4. The broadcaster is currently fronting Easy Ways To Live Well with Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, their first project together.
I’d be disappointed if I’d paid for it
In the latest instalment of the BBC programme, the 55-year-old’s gift for the small screen favourite’s baby was seen.
However, the host, 37, wasted no time in poking fun, saying she’d be “disappointed if I’d paid for it”.
It all came about after Hugh attempted knitting to tackle memory loss, in one of the many health fixes the pair are road-testing.
It was revealed that the father-of-four did see a difference while Steph took up belly dancing to improve her blood pressure and heart rate.

Discussing the results, Hugh stated: “Instead of being in the bottom 14 per cent, I’m now just in the bottom 33 per cent.
“Well, I have to say, I’m really pleased with that. I’m prepared to give the knitting the credit for that.”
Steph then stated: “Yeah, because lets face it, you were meant to be knitting something for my unborn child.”
“That I have done,” he said, much to his colleague’s shock. “This is my first serious piece of knitting.”
It was that point he handed over a small knitted blanket, with three patches of blue and the same amount in purple.
“I love it!” she exclaimed holding it up, as he urged: “Don’t look too closely. What do you think?”
“That is fab. I think it’s great,” she gushed, but quipped: “I mean, don’t get me wrong, I’d be disappointed if I’d paid for it.”
Thankfully Hugh saw the funny side, replying: “Well isn’t it lucky that it’s free.”

Speaking to her bump, Steph, who was still pregnant at the time, said: “There you go, Uncle Hugh’s knitted you a little blanket.”
“A wonky blanket,” he went on. “Maybe that’ll be your baby’s first words, ‘Wonky blanket. I want wonky blanket’.”
She then stated bluntly: “I tell you what, it’s not going to have an accent like that. Thank you ever so much.

She posted: “Well hello world, just surfaced to let you know that we now have a daughter! Born on Monday morning just as @BBCBreakfast was wrapping up.
“We’re all fine and dandy. Just getting used to the eau de sick/poo I am now regularly wearing. #babylife.”
