Strictly Come Dancing: Reality stars ‘banned from joining new series’

Strictly Come Dancing 2018: Reality stars are ‘banned from joining the new series after producers get fed up of them trying to cash in on the show’

It’s the ballroom dancing show that wows viewers time and time again.

But it seems like producers have had enough of reality stars using the show as a way of getting publicity, as The Sun have reported that the show will be banning them from competing in future seasons.

A show source spoke with the publication, and said: ‘Certain reality celebrities have been peddling these stories about being ‘in talks’ for the show when they have never been approached.’

Surprising: Reality stars have allegedly been ‘banned from joining the new series of Strictly Come Dancing after producers get fed up of them trying to cash in on the show’ (pictured: Ex TOWIE star Mark Wright, in 2014)

‘Bosses are now fed up of hearing the same people bandying around their own names just to shift a few copies of some weight-loss DVD,’ the source added.

‘In light of this, they’ve put in place their own reality star ban to stop them from cashing in on the show.’

Ex TOWIE star Mark Wright, 31, competed on the twelfth series of the show, and he made it through the week 13 of the dancing competition.

Rumoured: Despite the alleged ban, it was recently revealed that former TOWIE star Sam Faiers, 27, is in talks to star on this year’s series of the show

Representatives for the BBC were contacted by MailOnline, but they have declined to comment.

Despite the alleged ban, it was recently revealed that former TOWIE star Sam Faiers, 27, is in talks to star on this year’s series of the show.

Sources told MailOnline: ‘Sam is currently in talks to appear on this year’s Strictly Come Dancing, however there’s a concern that it may clash with her filming commitments for the upcoming series(s) of The Mummy Diaries.’

Sam’s show The Mummy Diaries has been a big ratings hit over two series for ITVBe, with the latest run also co-starring her sister Billie.

The source went on to say that big plans for the third series of the reality show could rule Sam out of Strictly, explaining: ‘There’s a potential that Sam will be filming the next series of The Mummy Diaries in LA, which would rule her out of taking part in this year’s show.’

Would like to join: TOWIE star Gemma Collins, 37, also expressed her desire to be on the show in the past, after suffering her now viral fall at the BBC Teen Awards in October last year

TOWIE star Gemma Collins, 37, also expressed her desire to be on the show in the past, after suffering her now viral fall at the BBC Teen Awards in October last year.

Not realising that the stage beside her had dropped down, Gemma began to dance and twirl around to Ariana Grande’s Into You when she accidentally fell on top of ITV2 stars Jamie Jewitt, Amber Davies and Marcel Somerville.

After getting back up and putting on a brave face, the ITV darling reassured the 12,500 concert goers that she was OK following the nasty tumble.

However, Gemma did acknowledge how lucky she had been as her injuries could have been much more severe when she appeared on This Morning after the incident.

In exchange to drop the legal threat against the BBC, she offered the suggestion to let her compete in Strictly instead.

Not at the same level: Strictly Come Dancing judge Craig Revel Horwood said Gemma, and other reality stars, were too ‘low-rent’ to appear on the hugely popular dance show

But judge Craig Revel Horwood said she, and other reality stars, were too ‘low-rent’ to appear on the hugely popular dance show.

Speaking to The Sun last year, Craig admitted: ‘Gemma Collins would be fun on the show but it’s not very often that we have reality stars take to the ballroom.

‘We generally have people of a higher calibre than that.’

Gemma decided not to let this negative reaction get the better of her, though, as she has since signed on to be part of Celebrity MasterChef 2018 alongside Frankie Bridge and Dolly Parton’s sister Stella.
