Tamar Braxton is uncovering dark moments from her past.
On Thursday’s episode of “The Wendy Williams Show,” the singer and reality TV star revealed she was molested as a child.
“I’ve been battling myself about whether or not I want to say what happened or not… I’m Tamar and I’m real, right?” she told Williams while referencing a deep conversation she had with her sisters and “Fix My Life” star Iyanla Vanzant. “A lot of things happened in my childhood that I was too afraid to talk about. Too ashamed to talk about. But the truth of the matter is I have been molested by both sides of my family.”
The revelation came as a shock to Williams and her audience.
Braxton, 41, known for her hit song “Love & War,” did not share any names in her interview.
She later added on Instagram, “I decided to Tell Wendy and the world MY secret, MYSELF that I have been a victim of abuse not once, twice, ten, but multiple times by multiple ‘family members’ I’ve never told ANYONE other than Two people in my life and they both have held this close to them.”
It’s been a rocky year for Braxton. In the fall of 2017, she split from her husband Vincent Herbert after nearly nine years of marriage. The fallout from the breakup was tough as she accused Herbert of getting another woman pregnant, then quickly took it back.
Then in the spring of 2018, several liens totaling $450,000 were placed against the couple. The home they intended to sell was turned into a rental, as well.
And in the summer, Braxton was publicly “ridiculed” by a Delta Air Lines pilot. However, she didn’t blame the airline for the incident, but rather called out the pilot for his behavior.
But things appear to be turning around. Braxton told Williams that she’s in love with a new man and has been dating for three months. Braxton didn’t give his name, but said he’s from Nigeria, works in finance and went to Harvard Business School.
“He’s so fine, I can’t take it,” she quipped. “He’s like a whole snack. A Lunchable.”
