Ulrika Jonsson only thought of having affair once during sexless marriage

Ulrika Jonsson has admitted she felt like asking her then-husband for permission to have an affair during their sexless marriage.

The 52-year-old split from her third husband Brian Monet back in April and she’s been extremely open about the reasons why their relationship failed to last.

Writing a frank first-person piece in the Daily Mail, she admitted the thought of an affair came to mind when she was preparing to celebrate her 50th birthday.

‘It was a fleeting notion, born out of deep hurt and frustration over the fact that Brian and I had made love just once in nearly eight years,’ she explained. ‘But one shocking enough to make me realise just how wretched my sexless marriage was making me feel.’

While she didn’t go on to have an affair, the presenter revealed that the continued lack of sex was too much to bear and their marriage came to an end just months later.

‘We never made love again, which is something that remains incredibly perplexing to me, not least because I’ve never got to the bottom of why. Sadly, our marriage irretrievably broke down six months later, ending in divorce this summer,’ she wrote.

And Ulrika made it clear that she didn’t actually want an affair as much as she just wanted to do something that would make her former husband pay more attention to her.

‘Infidelity was an act I knew full well I would never actually embark on, let alone seek Brian’s permission to pursue,’ she added. ‘Indeed, it only occurred to me to ask in the first place because I’d reached a point where shock tactics seemed the only way to get my husband’s attention — the only way to force him to realise just how miserable I’d become, while communicating the urgency of our situation.

‘I knew damn well I didn’t want to be with anyone else; that I revered the family we’d built together too much to betray it. But I also couldn’t reconcile myself to never being touched or made love to again.’

Ulrika’s first marriage was with John Turnbull which ended in 1995 after five years, with the pair having one child together in son Cameron, 24.

She later married Lance Gerrard-Wright in 2003 after they met on reality TV show Mr. Right, and had one daughter together, Martha, before they separated in 2005.

Ulrika shares one son in 11-year-old Malcolm with third husband Brian.
