‘View’ tell-all author says Rosie O’Donnell thought Whoopi was ‘checked out’
There’s even more to Whoopi Goldberg and Rosie O’Donnell‘s conflict on “The View.”
Ramin Setoodeh, author of “Ladies Who Punch: The Explosive Inside Story of ‘The View,’” told Jenny McCarthy on her SiriusXM radio show Friday that O’Donnell, 57, tried to make some adjustments on the daytime talk show when she returned as a host, but Goldberg, 63, was not on board with her ideas.
“I don’t think she liked to be challenged,” he said of Goldberg. “I think she had the most problems with Rosie O’Donnell because Rosie wanted to challenge her and wanted to change the show. Rosie felt like Whoopi was kind of checked out.”
In 2007, Goldberg replaced O’Donnell as the talk show’s moderator, and when O’Donnell returned in 2014, she was not given the spot again.
Setoodeh did not specify what kind of changes O’Donnell wanted to make.
The Variety reporter claimed Goldberg told O’Donnell the show was “fine the way it is,” and said their feud was “the biggest clash ‘The View’ had ever seen after [McCarthy] left [as a co-host].”
When O’Donnell signed back onto the show in 2014, she said the comeback process felt “very much like the ‘Hunger Games.” She added, “It felt very negative and competitive.”
According to People, O’Donnell also told Setoodeh for the book, “Whoopi Goldberg was as mean as anyone has ever been on television to me, personally — while I was sitting there.”
