Wild moment that led to Stephanie Davis being fired from Hollyoaks on the spot

Stephanie Davis is rejoining the cast of Hollyoaks three years after she was fired on the spot, following multiple reports of her turning up late on set after heavy nights of drinking and partying.

And despite plenty of warnings that she was heading for the chop, back then party girl Steph was too focused on having a good time to worry about her career.

But, after one particularly wild night, in which a boozed-up Stephanie flashed her vagina at photographers outside a bar in Manchester, she was sacked on the spot when she turned up to work still drunk the next day.

A spokesperson for Hollyoaks told Mirror Online: " Stephanie Davis will no longer be filming Hollyoaks. Her contract has been terminated with immediate effect."

At the time, her rep explained: "Stephanie’s contract was terminated following warnings for lateness, attendance and after a final incident in which she turned up to set unfit to work because of alcohol consumption."

Her character, Sinead O’Connor, was introduced in 2009 along with her family – stepmother Diane, father Rob and brother Finn – and was immediately embroiled in some of the soap’s biggest plotlines, including one about prostitution, another on bulling and the 2013 bomb explosion at the council flat.

A couple of months before her axing, Stephanie revealed her excitement about signing a new one-year contract with the show.

"I’m really happy. I’ve been in the show since I was 16 and I’m 22 now. I’ve kind of grown up here, which has been mental," she said, adding that she was keen for Sinead to have a new love interest after giving birth to best friend Ste Hay’s baby daughter Hannah.

Just eight weeks later, Stephanie found herself out on her ear when bosses finally had enough of her her unprofessional behaviour.

Scriptwriters had to quickly amend her storyline so Sinead could be written out.

In her final episode, Sinead received a text revealing boyfriend Ste was cheating on her with her teenage stepbrother, Harry.

She downed a bottle of wine and stormed out, leaving the village for good – or so viewers thought.

Off-screen, despite her own representative confirming she was let go, Steph insisted she was never sacked.

"I walked out. It was my choice to leave," she claimed in January 2016, shortly before entering the Celebrity Big Brother house.

"I walked out and they tried to get me back several times, and I said no," she told Newsbeat, adding that she was the "most professional person you could ever meet".

"I left because I had enough and I was just ready to move on, I’d been there since I was 16 and that was kind of it. I’m sad at the way it ended."

And she hit back at her public reputation, insisting she wasn’t "naughty" but actually "an absolute geek" and a "wimp".

"I’ve not got a bad thing to say about Hollyoaks. I had a great experience," Stephanie added.

"It’s been a rollercoaster and I was in it from a young age but now I’m happy and content and feel like I’ve found me again."

However, Steph’s troubles were far from over as she went on to meet bad boy Jeremy McConnell inside the CBB house and embarked on a volatile, violent and traumatising relationship with him, which resulted in the birth of their son Caben-Albi last January.

Their short-lived relationship was marked by McConnell’s cocaine-fuelled rages and infidelity, while Steph’s alcoholism almost spiralled out of control.

But after McConnell was convicted of violently assaulting her – and subsequently sent to jail for breaching the terms of his probation by flying to Turkey for a beard and hair transplant – Stephanie booked herself into rehab to battle her demons once and for all.

"I knew that if I didn’t take drastic measures to turn my life around, I would end up dead," she said in February this year.

"I was drinking heavily and was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder after I split up with Jeremy, because of everything I had been through while we were together.

"It got to the point where I was drinking most days until I would black out, and I was feeling suicidal. I knew that for Caben’s sake, I had to sort myself out before it was too late. I’m an alcoholic. Going to rehab saved my life."

Now clean and sober at 25, single mum Stephanie is thrilled to have been invited back to Hollyoaks for a fresh start.

"I’m over the moon to be given this amazing opportunity and so excited to bring feisty Sinead back to Hollyoaks," she told the Mirror.

"I can’t wait to see all the cast and crew there, many that I have known for years.

"I just want to get stuck into learning my first scripts. I can’t wait to be on set and back acting again, which is my passion.

Steph will start filming scenes as village troublemaker Sinead in August 2018.

Hollyoaks executive producer Bryan Kirkwood also can’t wait to see the return of Sinead, last seen having an affair with her stepmum’s husband Tony Hutchinson, who is played by show stalwart Nick Pickard.

Bryan told us: "I am delighted that Stephanie is returning, she’s a hugely talented actress who has worked hard to overcome some personal issues.

"We welcome her return to Hollyoaks to reprise her role as Sinead O’Connor, a brilliant and vibrant character who the audience love.

"Sinead will make a return to the Hutchinson’s family in autumn, no doubt bringing drama in tow."
