Zinedine Zidane has ‘told friends’ he wants to manage Manchester United.
The three-time Champions League winning boss is out of work after leaving Real Madrid on a high at the end of last season.
But with pressure mounting on Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford, France legend Zidane is reportedly waiting in the wings to step in.
Mourinho faces the biggest test of his career after a summer of transfer disappointment with United chiefs failing to secure his preferred targets.
Mirror Football’s David McDonnell exclusively reported that the 53-year-old has told his closest confidantes that he would have walked away from any other club had it not been Manchester United .

With a must-win game against Tottenham to prepare for on Bank Holiday Monday, Mourinho’s job is being eyed by Zidane.
According to the Daily Mail , Zidane is “very interested” and believes he is the leading candidate to succeed Mourinho following his hat-trick of European triumph – the last of which, against Liverpool in Kiev.
The report suggests the World Cup winner “would be the ideal figure to convince Paul Pogba and Anthony martial that their futures remain at Old Trafford”.
Zidane, 46, is backed as the 2/1 favourite by the bookmakers to take charge of United this season.
Zidane’s long association with United’s kitmakers adidas could be another driving factor into making the Frenchman the No.1 choice to become the club’s next manager, should Mourinho leave.
