CoppaFeel! founder Kris Hallenga reflects on nine years since her charities launch and friendship with Lorraine Kelly

On Sunday it will be nine years since CoppaFeel! was granted official charity status. On that exact same day, I had my left boob removed.

So it was a day of highs . . . thanks to both the Charity Commission and whoever invented morphine.

Last week, I was invited on to Lorraine Kelly’s ITV show for an annual boob chat and catch-up.

People are surprised I no longer get nervous about going on her live show. But it feels like I am having a chinwag with an old friend and Lorraine makes it bizarrely easy to forget there are vast numbers of people watching me.

I got to fill her in on the recent announcement making health education – and thus cancer education – compulsory in all state-funded primary and secondary schools from 2020.

That got me thinking how far we have come – and how far I’ve come personally.

I got to mark this momentous occasion with not just Lorraine but friends of mine, friends of the charity and some more awesome folk at a special birthday lunch arranged by my pals at Swarovski.

It’s very hard as a charity to justify down-time, reflection time and fancy lunches – though I am a strong believer in team morale and celebrating big and small successes along the way.

If you had told the newly single-boobed, 23-year-old me she would be attending a lovely lunch, surrounded by dear friends and covered in Swarovski crystals, she’d have probably laughed a lot.

But that’s how ridiculous and wonderful life can be, my friends.

She’d also find it pretty unbelievable I am curating the NHS Twitter account this week. But I am!

So if you are on Twitter, come and see what a week in my life (and my cat’s life) looks like.
