Acapulco chairs rose to popularity in the 1950s when, as legend has it, a French traveller copied the design of a woven Mayan rope hammock.

He crafted an open-air lounger to capture the breezes in Mexico's sunny beach resort of Acapulco – and the humble moon chair was born.
