For the first time since 2019, the Prince and Princess of Wales attended church in Sandringham on Christmas Day morning with other members of the Royal Family. Joining them were their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, and as always Kate’s outfit caught everyone’s attention.

Kate’s Christmas day outfit centred on her longline olive coat thought to be a bespoke Alexander McQueen creation.

Kate previously wore the coat in 2020 and it is one of many military-style coats, dresses and tops in the Princess’ wardrobe.

Another royal who was also a fan of a military-inspired coat was Kate’s mother-in-law Princess Diana.

During a visit to the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in 1987, Diana wore a white military suit designed by Catherine Walker.

Diana also wore a red gold buttoned structured jacket during a visit to RAF Wittering in 1989.

But Kate’s latest olive coat is perhaps most similar to the green Moschino military jacket Diana wore to meet the President of Italy in 1990 which featured statement pockets and bold buttons.

According to the Royal Fashion Police on Instagram, Kate also wore a matching olive green dress by Mango for Christmas this year.

She also donned a pair of brown suede boots by the royal-approved brand Gianvito Rossi.

Completing her ensemble of neutrals was a brown suede clutch bag by Stuart Weitzman and a pair of brown gloves.

Kate topped off her outfit with an olive green hat by Philip Treacy with feather detailing which was thought to be a new addition to her wardrobe.

And for a touch of sparkle, Kate wore a pair of Dina Earrings by Sezane which currently retail for £100 online.

Kate’s outfit received a mixed reaction online, with some praising the Princess for opting for a colour she rarely wears for her Christmas appearance.

@ciaraquill wrote on Twitter: “#PrincessofWales wearing a khaki green coat by Alexander McQueen and a very chic hat by Irish milliner Philip Treacy at church in Sandringham on Christmas Day.

“It’s a lovely look on her even though I wouldn’t usually be a fan of this shade of green.”

And @dancinginfinit1 said: “#PrincessofWales gets it right with Alexander McQueen every time. The details on that coat, love it!”

But others were less positive about Kate’s coat, with Instagram user @alexisplexis penning: “This is giving me Indiana Jones vibes, the coat and the colour, the feather on the hat and the tomb raider boots – oh no.”

And @mydocuments_ said: “This is my least favourite of all of Kate’s green coats.

“The colour and silhouette do nothing for her. And let’s not talk about the awkwardly placed breast pockets…”

Kate last wore the green Alexander McQueen coat during a visit to Bradford in January 2020.

At the time she accessorised with a black bag, dainty dangling earrings and a pair of black pumps.
