Lidl and Aldi to shut early if England reach the World Cup final

Unless you’ve been avoiding all football chat for the past month, you will have noticed that football is on the way home.

To celebrate and in a show of support to England, Lidl has announced it will join rival Aldi in shutting an hour before kick off at 3pm.

It’ll also open early at 9:30am to give customers more time to stock up essentials before the big game – and it’s great news for staff too who will be able to finish early to watch the match.

With many supporters fingers permanently crossed for England to reach the World Cup final for the first time since 1966, we’ll be stocking up the fridge for our various World Cup parties come rain or shine.

As a result Lidl has felt the effects of World Cup fever after experiencing it’s highest ever football during the tournament, and with the semi-final only hours away we won’t be surprised if this grows even more.

Christian Härtnagel, the CEO of Lidl UK said “As the official supermarket of the England Football team, we absolutely believe it’s coming home, which is why we are planning to close stores an hour early, and take part in what we hope will become a day of national celebration.”
