Love Islanders have a surprising support system in place when filming gets too overwhelming

But while life in the villa may look like non-stop fun (and a little television drama thrown in for good measure), many Islanders find it an incredibly overwhelming and emotional experience.

So to make sure that the contestants have a little help along the way, ITV has made sure that there is a proper support system in place for moments when it all gets too much.

Speaking to the Mirror, an ITV source said that: "The Islanders have access to an on-site psychologist at all times."

Available at all hours of the day, ITV producers employ a mental health professional to live on-site for the entirety of the summer.

After all, having your every moment filmed while you're in the first throes of love is definitely going to be something of an emotional experience… to say the least.

The source added that struggling contestants "can also talk to any of the production staff if they need to, who will step in if they notice something isn't right."

Can you imagine the levels of self-restraint the producers must have to show after recouplings? We couldn't do it.

The show's presenter Caroline Flack has recently spoken out about the roller-coaster of emotions that is Love Island.

Speaking to Glamour, Caroline said that having a psychologist on-call is typical of other reality shows like "Big Brother, The X Factor and so on" and the help is "needed" because there are such "peaks and troughs."

How last year's Love Island contestants earn thousands on social media flogging clothes, make-up, vitamins and even biscuits.

Missguided will be styling all the Love Islanders this year… so shopping their wardrobes just got even easier.

We try Caroline Flack's River Island range… including the Love Island-inspired yellow dress that every summer wardrobe needs.
