Melania Trump, 50, shunned her usual choice of white, pattern or tonal beige, instead stepping out in all black. The First Lady looked on as her husband, Donald Trump, nominated Amy Coney Barrett to supreme court, in a move sure to divide the US. The seat is only available thanks to the very recent death of Ruth Bader Ginsburg – and Melania likely wore black today as a mark of respect.
Melania chose a simple black pencil skirt, which sat just below her knee.
She teamed this with a black wrap jacket, belted at the waist with a skinny black belt.
The First Lady completed the look with simple black stilettos and bare legs.
Her hair was worn in a simple straight style, and sat over her shoulders.
For the nomination, Melania sat alongside Mrs Barrett’s husband and children. Her own son, Barron, did not appear to be present.
Donald wore a deep navy suit, teamed with a blue and red stripe tie.
Amy Coney Barrett, meanwhile, chose a dark brown dress which had bow detailing on the bust.
She teamed this with simple nude court shoes, with a noticeably lower heel than Melania.
