Prince Philip ‘baffled by Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s desperation to leave the Royal Family’, biographer claims
PRINCE Philip has been left “completely baffled” by Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s desperate to leave the royal family, a biographer has claimed.
The Duke, 36, and Duchess of Sussex, 39, are currently living in California with Archie, one, after stepping down as senior royals in March.
Speaking to the Mirror's royal podcast, Pod Save the Queen, Ingrid Seward explains: "Philip welcomed Meghan at the beginning. He was an outsider, he knows what he feels like. He feels he's had a part to play, he can do something useful and help her, but whether he ever managed to do something I don't know.
"I think he is completely baffled by Harry and Meghan's desperation to leave the royal family. I think he feels they had so much going for them.
"Harry had all his military appointments and he was helping. They had a beautiful house that was just finished, they had a beautiful baby, they were beginning to really make a mark in the world.”
Ingrid pointed out that when the royal family held their Sandringham Summit to discuss Harry and Meghan’s future, Philip left before it started.
The royal author, who penned biography Prince Philip Revealed, previously claimed the 99-year-old has 'walked away' from the situation, after his advice fell on 'deaf ears'.
She added the bombshell of Megxit has left a “sour taste” in his mouth, and he now compares the 39-year-old to Wallis Simpson, whose marriage to King Edward VIII in 1937 prompted his abdication.
Ingrid told Vanity Fair: “For Philip, whose entire existence has been based on a devotion to doing his duty, it appeared that his grandson had abdicated his for the sake of his marriage to an American divorcee in much the same way as Edward VIII gave up his crown to marry Wallis Simpson in 1936.”
Prince Philip is also said to have been dismayed over how the Queen, 94, was informed of Prince Harry and Meghan’s decision to step down, reportedly being given the news ten minutes before it went public.
Ingrid claims the Duke’s mantra is the monarchy comes “first, second and third”, and he couldn’t understand why Meghan wasn’t able to give up her acting career and support Harry, just as he had left his naval career in support of the Queen.
After offering his opinion to Prince Harry and Meghan, Ingrid says it was “up to them to listen”, but they didn't.
Ingrid wrote: “He quite liked Meghan at first, but their actions have left a bad taste and as a consequence the relationship with Harry has suffered.”
