But as the days cool off and the prosecco runs low, it is time to reflect. Clemmie Fieldsend brings you our Fabulous Daily Summer Style Awards.
Best holiday wardrobe
HAVING trouble packing? Then look to Beyonce for inspiration. The singer took a breather from her On The Run II tour for a break in France with hubby Jay-Z, daughter Blue Ivy, six, and year-old twins Sir and Rumi.
While our holiday gear is basically just a few kaftans, a pair of Topshop flip-flops and sunnies, Beyonce, 36, was designer labels all the way.
Her look was pure haute-hippie, with flowing boho-style pieces from the likes of Missoni and Dolce & Gabbana.
Most unlikely entry
ENGLAND boss Gareth Southgate, 47, became a hero by leading our footballers to the World Cup semi-finals – while wearing a Marks & Spencer waistcoat.
The chain’s waistcoat sales promptly rose by 35 per cent as Gareth’s garb took the country by storm. Waistcoats were the season’s fashion hit as both male and female fans wore them to cheer on our boys.
Even though England failed to win the Jules Rimet trophy, we salute you Gareth, for your efforts in bringing a bit of polish to the pitch.
Most controversial 'it' item
THONG swimwear has hit the headlines this summer, thanks partly to the ladies of Love Island wearing nothing but the floss-like undies for eight weeks.
There was even a crackdown, ahem, on the controversial swimmers when they were outlawed by the Jubilee Park campsite in Lincolnshire. Officials were worried they would offend children . . . and nans. But they can’t keep the UK public from looking peachy poolside for too long.
In fact, there has been a 68 per cent rise in searches for thong swimwear in the past two months reported by the fashion search platform Lyst.
White bits are a nightmare to even out, after all . . . but perhaps stick to wearing your itsy-bitsy bikini bottoms in Ibiza, rather than your local caravan site.
Top of the crops
BEING told you are turning into your mum isn’t usually a compliment.
But Strictly star Daisy Lowe, 29, lopped off her long dark locks in favour of a Jazz Age bob, like her mum Pearl Lowe, 48, used to rock back in the day.
Model Daisy posted a pic of her new look on Instagram, prompting rumours she might be joining the cast of the musical Chicago.
It certainly gives her some extra razzle-dazzle.
Best dressed wedding guest
THE only woman to even come close to taking the shine away from former Suits actress Meghan Markle at the royal wedding, was real-life lawyer Amal Clooney.
The human rights barrister, 40, chose a canary yellow dress by Stella McCartney, accessorised with matching hat and her actor husband George. Around 17,000 people, from 65 countries, searched online for yellow Stella dresses following the wedding.
And Amal’s outfit appealed to those who couldn’t afford designer purchases, too, as searches for yellow frocks rocketed by 1,500 per cent, according to Lyst.
Best use of carbs
HARRY STYLES landed the best job in fashion in June. He got to wear Gucci and eat chips – two things we never thought we would hear in the same sentence.
The 24-year-old singer shot a campaign for the label at The Camp chippy in St Albans, Herts, where the lucky owner reportedly got £20,000 for feeding him.
Nice work if you can get it . . . but how did they get the smell of chip fat out of Harry’s clobber?
Weirdest style icon
WHICH must-have accessory do the Hadid sisters, Kardashians and Princess Anne have in common? Wraparound cycling sunglasses, of course. The Queen’s daughter clearly has an eye for style.
Anne, who turns 68 today, may not be known for her fashion sense but she has become an unlikely trendsetter with her Nineties eyewear. We like to think Kim and co saw Princess Anne and thought they would give it a go.
Wonder if the royal will reciprocate with their love of cycling shorts . . .
Fantastic over-forty
WHERE do we start? With the eyelash-grazing fringe? The artfully dishevelled black eyeliner?
Claudia Winkleman hasn’t been on the box much lately but the 46-year-old Strictly Come Dancing co-host has clung to her cool signature style, rarely putting a foot wrong.
Anyone who can rock leopard print and gold hoops without being in EastEnders – as she did at the cool V&A summer party in June – gets a big thumbs-up from us.
We fell in love with her even more when she revealed this month that she scrubs off her fake tan with a kitchen sponge. You are our hero, Clauds.
With the new Strictly season kicking off soon, our eyes will be glued to her and Tess Daly’s wardrobe battles much more than the actual dancing.
Best not-so blushing bride
IT has been quite a year for Meghan Markle – and a stylish one at that. The 37-year-old married Prince Harry in a stunning Givenchy gown that had everyone googling “boat neck” – and wondering if they could find one down the local New Look.
It was a double whammy, as the new Duchess of Sussex changed into a slinky Stella McCartney number. But it wasn’t quite a fairytale ending. She has had a few wardrobe wobbles since, including some questionable sheer hosiery.
And if her royal makeover has split opinion, she found a balance between LA cool and princess protocol with a wardrobe filled with Dior, Prada and Ralph Lauren that reportedly cost an eye-watering £160,000 in total. Long may her fashion reign continue.
Most diverse mag month
FASHION isn’t known for being the most inclusive of industries. But nine major magazines feature a black or mixed-race celebrity on their September covers, out now. It is the most important month of the year in fashion circles.
And while Beyonce is US Vogue’s cover girl, for the first time in its 126-year history the pictures were shot by a black photographer, Tyler Mitchell.
Rihanna is on the cover of British Vogue, actress Tiffany Haddish covers US Glamour, Lupita Nyong’o is up front for Porter, pregnant model Slick Woods is on the cover of Elle UK, it’s Zendaya for US Marie Claire and Ruth Negga on our UK version, while actress Tracee Ellis Ross is on Elle Canada.
Not forgetting top model duo Naomi Campbell and Adwoa Aboah, who are on one of LOVE magazine’s tenth-anniversary covers.
