Avengers 4 Fan Theories, Predictions After Avengers: Infinity War

Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures

If you haven’t seen Avengers: Infinity War yet, then what are you doing with your life?! The most recent installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been blowing our minds ever since we first came up with some theories about it.

The movie has already broken tons of box-office records and it even inspired some of the original Avengers to get matching tattoos. With Avengers 4 coming out in less than a year, we thought now would be a good time to start rounding up all of the new fan theories that have left us SHOOK.

The fourth Avengers film is currently untitled, but we know that it will be a direct follow-up of the events that happened in Avengers: Infinity War. Fans began to come up with potential solutions and theories on what will go down in the upcoming installment and we have to admit that they’re all really good. Before you read, we cannot stress enough that there are SO MANY SPOILERS ahead. So if you haven’t seen Infinity War, take this as a sign to get into the car and drive to the nearest theater to see it before you keep reading.

The next film will be called Avengers: Infinity Crusade.

Originally, the fourth Avengers movie was titled Avengers: Infinity War — Part 2, but sometime during production, the creative team decided to nix the name. Directors Anthony and Joseph Russo wanted to change the title to make it fit the theme of the movie, but we probably won’t find out the name for a few months because the president of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, told CinemaBlend the name is actually a spoiler itself.

Although we don’t know for sure what the film will actually be called, tons of fans think that the title will be Avengers: Infinity Crusade. The reasoning behind this theory is pretty simple, Infinity Crusade is the name of the 1993 comicbook series that was a sequel to Infinity War and Infinity Gauntlet. Fans originally thought that Avengers: Infinity Gauntlet was in the running, but Kevin quickly shot that rumor down saying it’s “definitely not” the name of the movie.

Captain America will trade his life.

When we saw this moment in the trailer for Infinity War, we were sure it was foreshadowing Captain America’s demise. Although he made out of the flick alive, we are seriously doubtful that he will have the same success in the upcoming movie. One moment that is sticking out to people is when the Captain says, “We don’t trade lives.”

This is, of course, in reference to Vision saying that he’ll die in order to destroy the stone, but when it’s pointed out that Captain sacrificed himself in Captain America: The First Avenger, he quickly brushes it aside. Fans believe that the conversation was actually foreshadowing that the Cap will once again trade his life to save millions. As much as we don’t want to see Chris Evans exit the franchise, we’re pretty sure that Avengers 4 will be the last time he holds the Captain America shield.

The OG Avengers will trade their lives for the ones who disappeared.

You know how at the end of Infinity War about half of the cast disappeared into dust and completely broke our hearts? While we have MANY questions regarding that moment, fans think that in order to get some of our fave Avengers back, like Black Panther and Spider-Man, we’re going to have to say goodbye to some of the OGs.

Once again, people are picking up on the importance of the line “we don’t trade lives.” It was mentioned at least twice in the movie and was an important motive behind why there was even a fight in Wakanda. Because of it being said repeatedly, fans believe that in order to get back the people who disappeared, the Avengers who were left behind will have to trade in their own lives to Thanos.

Peter will trade his life for Gamora.

We have to admit that out of all the characters, we definitely did NOT see Gamora being one of the few who died in Infinity War, especially because we know for a fact that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is happening. Not only was her death a complete surprise, but it showed an unexpected amount of emotion from Thanos, who killed her in order to receive the Soul Stone.

As devastating as it was to see Peter Quill find out the news about Gamora’s fate, we couldn’t help but get annoyed that he couldn’t wait until after they got the Infinity Gauntlet off of Thanos before punching him. Peter obviously loves Gamora, so much so that he was willing to kill her when she asked, so fans wouldn’t be surprised to see him try to find a way to switch places with her. We’re not really sure HOW Peter would be able to revive Gamora, but fans believe that he will find a way and when Gamora comes back to life, Thanos will lose the Soul Stone because the one person he loved was no longer dead. In turn, that could be the beginning of the end for the antagonist.

Everyone who disappeared is trapped in the Soul Stone.

Honestly, just thinking about everyone who suddenly disappeared and turned to some sort of ash at the end of Infinity War makes us emotional. It was truly shocking and while we’re pretty sure that we will see everyone again because of all the future Marvel movies starring those characters that are in the works, we’re still trying to figure out exactly how they will be saved.

One fan pointed out that there’s a possibility that all of their souls and/or bodies transferred INTO the Soul Stone. If that’s the case, there’s a potential that those stuck inside can work together and figure out a way to bust open the Stone and destroy it. This could also be a way to set up the new class of Avengers that will presumably take over the franchise.

Everyone who disappeared is on the Ancestral Plane.

Another possibility about where the actual heck everyone disappeared to is the Ancestral Plane. We first got introduced to the Plane back in Black Panther when both T’Challa and Killmonger go to meet with their fathers and ancestors to discover the truth about their past. The Ancestral Plane is a place where ancestors reside in the afterlife, waiting to offer advice to future generations in Wakanda, and because the final battle with Thanos took place on Wakanda, it’s a very real possibility.

If this is true, everyone is waiting to be rescued on the Plane and it could be an easy fix (somewhat). It would also give us some seriously emotional reunions between T’Challa and his father and Vision and Wanda.

Someone who disappeared will come back evil.

Going into the next Avengers movie, our main concern is recovering everyone who disappeared at the end of Infinity War. We really have no clue where they went or how they’ll return, but we’re pretty positive that everyone will come back unharmed.

While almost everyone agrees that the disappeared will appear again, there are some theories going around that some people may not come back exactly the same. We all know by now that rarely things go as planned, so it wouldn’t be crazy to believe that some people may come back a little different. The most popular theory is that we will see Bucky Barnes on the side of evil (again) when he returns and honestly we really hope that doesn’t happen because it took so long to finally get him back!

Black Panther will take over as the leader of the new Avengers.

Having the final battle of Infinity War take place in Wakanda is super significant, and many people believe it’s because it’s a great way to see the Black Panther transition into a leadership role among the Avengers. It’s no secret that we’re going to be saying goodbye to tons of the original cast after Avengers 4 and Black Panther is an obvious choice to take the charge.

We have become more in love with T’Challa and Wakanda would definitely be the perfect place for the Avengers headquarters, so this theory checks out for us. We got to see Black Panther interact with Tony Stark and Steve Rogers more and we can’t wait to see what he accomplishes next.

Doctor Strange will officially join the Avengers.

We got to know Doctor Strange pretty well in his first solo flick, Doctor Strange, but we got to see more of Benedict Cumberbatch in Thor: Ragnarok and even more so in Avengers: Infinity War. As he has interacted more and more with the Avengers, some fans believe that he will soon become the newest official addition to the squad.

When he was on screen in Infinity War, every line was important and he played a huge role in the plot due to him having the Time Stone. With some major key Avengers most likely leaving at the end of Avengers 4, Doctor Strange would make a great replacement.

Doctor Strange let Thanos win.

Like we said earlier, Doctor Strange had some seriously important moments in Infinity War and they all involved keeping the Time Stone away from Thanos. When he first agrees to go with Iron Man and Spider-Man, he even tells them that he wouldn’t give up the Stone even if it meant they had to die. He takes his job really seriously, okay?

Except right as Thanos was about to kill Tony, the Doctor willingly gave up the Stone! While it may seem like the time-traveling wizard has more emotions than we thought, there may actually be a method behind the madness. Remember when Doctor Strange was meditating and saw all 14 million outcomes of their war with Thanos and only one had the Avengers winning? Well, some people believe that he purposefully let Thanos win this round because of something he saw in the future. This theory is supported by the fact that at the end of the flick he said that it was “the only way” right before he, too, disappeared.

Villians will come back during time travel.

It’s pretty much a guarantee that some sort of time travel will take place due to the Time Stone, and it’s even more likely because at the end we saw Thanos talking with young Gamora again. With Thanos having the ability to change time and Doctor Strange disappearing, we know that we’re going to have to expect the unexpected.

One theory that has been floating around is that all the time traveling that is going to happen could bring villains from previous Marvel flicks back to life. If this happens, we could not only have to see the Avengers deal with Thanos, but they’ll have to fight people they already beat. Yes, it’s definitely a long shot and it would add to the chaos, but we definitely wouldn’t complain if Michael B Jordan showed up as Killmonger again.

Nebula will join the Guardians of the Galaxy.

We will probably NEVER get over Gamora’s surprise death and we’re not sure how Peter and the rest of the Guardians will either. Although we’re really, really hoping that Gamora’s story isn’t completely over, there are some theories about how her role will be filled in not only on the team, but in the upcoming movies as well. In Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, we got to see Nebula and Gamora reconnect, and Nebula actually almost stayed with the crew, but she left because she was so determined to kill Thanos.

One theory suggests that because of their fixed bond and the fact that Gamora essentially died by showing Thanos the Soul Stone to save Nebula’s life, Nebula will join the Guardians full time. This would definitely create an interesting dynamic in the team but the sentiment is super sweet.

Thanos will regret everything and undo his actions for Little Gamora.

One obvious theme throughout Infinity War is the surprising love that Thanos truly has for Gamora. We finally got to see a flashback to when he first met her as a young girl and how he came to be her adoptive father. It not only gives us a glimpse into the deep-rooted hatred Gamora had for him, but it also shows that Thanos actually believes what he is doing is right.

It’s not unlike Marvel to have the villain suddenly turn good at the last minute — just look at the heroic way Loki died after years of fighting against the Avengers and his brother, Thor. One of the last scenes in the movie shows Thanos once again talking to young Gamora and telling her that he accomplished his goal. When she asked him what it cost to do it, he replied with “everything.” This quick moment tells the audience that Thanos is still being haunted by killing Gamora and could potentially be the catalyst that makes him regret his actions. This is a long shot, but we could see it happening.

Captain Marvel will figure out how to defeat Thanos.

As the post-credits scene in Infinity War shows, we’re about to learn all about Brie Larson‘s Captain Marvel. The iconic comic book character is getting her own movie and fans believe that she will play a big role in taking down Thanos.

Captain Marvel is set to release on March 6, 2019 and will be the last Marvel movie to premiere before Avengers 4. In the post-credits scene, we see Nick Fury and Maria Hill call for Captain Marvel right before they disappeared and the Captain’s signal is the final thing we see before the screen goes black. Obviously, Captain Marvel needs to directly tie into the Infinity War plot and people think that in her movie, she will discover how to stop Thanos and will also appear in Avengers 4 to help the Avengers destroy him for good.
