USE LABELS TO KEEP EVERYTHING ORGANISED

It can be frustrating searching through a cluttered fridge to try and find the ingredients needed to prepare dinner.

An easy way to avoid this is by organising everything using labels. This way it only takes a quick scan of the contents of a fridge to find the ingredients needed.

It is especially helpful when multiple people are going in and out of the fridge as it ensures everyone knows where items belong.

Those who are feeling especially motivated could transfer store-bought foods, like hummus and salsa, into matching labelled jars for easier stacking and identification.

An easy way to organise your fridge and end clutter is to simply use labels

How Rebecca Gawthorne organises her fridge

* Take everything out of your fridge and give it a good clean. Throw out any food that is past its best and start completely afresh.

* Rebecca likes to arrange her food so that the same fruits and vegetables are together and visible – this means she’s more likely to eat it.

* Try some meal prep. Wash your fruit and veg, chop some up and put them in containers.

SEPARATE WITH CONTAINERS

As well labelling, the next step is storing everything in snap-lock containers.

This is a great way to keep food fresh for longer and allows people to easily stack and label food.

It also means food is less likely to go off as people can see through the containers, which means they are aware of what needs to be eaten.

People can also invest in glass containers which can go from fridge to freezer to oven. Although more expensive, they can be used in lieu of baking trays when busy.

USE MAGAZINE HOLDERS AND TURNTABLES

One nifty Instagrammer has revealed that they keep things separated in their kitchen fridge by using magazine holders.

Although they’re not your typical fridge addition, they are one way people can easily store ingredients that won’t get lost in the crisper.

The same person also shared the fact that they use a turntable to store beverages to make accessing them easier.

Recreate Iryna’s fridge or freezer at home

* Label containers that will hold permanent items.

* Invest in glass containers which can go from fridge to freezer to oven.

* Keep your herbs in a glass vase in the fridge to keep them fresher for longer.

* Use rectangle or square containers to maximise space.

* Use chalk pen to write dates and ingredients on the glass.

ORGANISE BY INGREDIENT

Once people have organised their fridge by labelling the containers, they can also arrange everything by ingredient.

This is an easy way to ensure everyone in the household knows where items belong and where they can be found.

It also helps to notify people on what ingredients are running low and need to be picked up in the next grocery shop.

Adelaide-based food blogger, Iryna Federico, previously told FEMAIL that she puts her herbs in a vase of water because it makes them last longer and helps to keep them fresh.

COORDINATE BY COLOUR

Those who have even more time on their hands when it comes to getting their home in tip-top shape should consider organising their ingredients by colour.

Although it may be more time consuming, it will be well worth it for a fridge that will have friends and family envious.

As well as being visually pleasing, it can make searching for food that little bit easier.

FILL YOUR FRIDGE WITH MEAL PREP

Meal prepping is traditionally done by purchasing food in bulk and cooking it all at once, distributing it among meal storage containers and storing them in the fridge.

Filling your refrigerator with meals for the week not only will have people organised when it comes to their week ahead but it will also keep the fridge neat and tidy.

Food will be less likely to go off quickly as all produce will have been used to create the dishes.

ADD MORE DRAWS

No one enjoys forcing their groceries into every nook and cranny of their fridge as it makes it difficult to locate everything further down the track.

One way to easily overcome this problem is by investing in extra draws to store food in.

Deep bins mean you can pull out sections of stuff in one quick movement — and avoid the daily excavation at dinnertime.
