Bookies slash odds on Meghan Markle having royal baby at Frimley Park hospital

Bookies believe Meghan Markle and Prince Harry will have their royal baby in a private wing of NHS hospital Frimley Park.

The couple haven't revealed where they have decided to have the birth, but The Mulberry Centre is the favourite when it comes to the odds.

The hospital, which is in Camberley in Surrey, is closer to the couple's new home Frogmore Cottage than the Lindo Wing, the hospital Princess Diana and the Duchess of Cambridge picked.

Ladbrokes is currently offering 5/6 on Frimley Park, followed by the Lindo Wing at 4/1.

London's Portland Hospital, which is where Sarah Ferguson had Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, is at 5/1 with Chelsea and Westminster at 8/1.

A home birth, although unusual in royal tradition these days, is rated at 10/1.

Jessica Bridge at Ladbrokes said: "It's safe to say Meghan is doing things in her own way rather than the royal way, and we've been forced to slash the odds of a birth much closer to Frogmore Cottage at Frimley Park."

In another break from tradition, Meghan has reportedly not appointed the Royal Household gynaecologists because she does not want "the men in suits" to supervise the birth.

The paper said the 37-year-old, who is expected to give birth later this month, has appointed an "unnamed female doctor" to lead the team instead of Alan Farthing and Guy Thorpe-Beeston.

The two gynaecologists attended at the arrival of all three of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's children.

A spokesman for the Royal Family declined to comment.

However, it is understood that there will definitely be a role for the Queen's doctors in the birth, but it might not be a prominent one.

A royal source reportedly said: "Meghan said she doesn't want the men in suits. She was adamant that she wanted her own people. It did leave a few of us a little baffled.

"It is slightly surprising. These people [the Queen’s doctors] are the best of the best and when it comes down to it, their role would actually be very limited in the birth itself, assuming all goes to plan."

Sources close to the Duchess stressed the ‘personal’ nature of her decision.
