Bride threatens to cancel wedding after mother-in-law tries on her wedding dress

When planning a wedding there are some things that you just don't mess with.

And a bride's wedding dress comes pretty near the top of the list.

But it seems one fiance and mother-in-law didn't get the memo.

Taking to Reddit's Wedding Shaming forum user aitathrowaway566 told how her mother-in-law "kept annoying" her by sending suggestions for the type of wedding dress she should get.

When this didn't work the MIL demanded the bride-to-be take her wedding dress shopping so "she could have an opinion" but when the time came she bizarrely made excuses and didn't go.

User aitathrowaway566 managed to find her "perfect" dress and stored it in a safe place so it didn't get ruined before the big day.

But one day when she returned home the dress had vanished along with her fiance who had taken it without permission to show his mum and things were about to get a whole lot worse when he arrived back home.

She wrote: "When he arrived I ran to get my dress that was buried underneath grocery bags.

"I took it to check on it and it's zipper was broken and the dress itself (fabric) was stretched out.

"I was like what the fuck happened to it, my mother in law must've tried it on, because it looked ruined, the straps were almost loose.

"I had to call my mother in law when my fiancé told me his mom and sister took turns to try it on.

"I was absolutely livid. She told me she did nothing wrong and that I was making a big deal out of it.

"She said she'd get a replacement for the broken zipper, but I told her to pay for a new dress since it was stretched out and no longer fitting.

"She refused and said that I probably wasn't happy with my dress choice and wanted to her to pay so I could get a new one.

"I yelled at her for trying it on and ruining it, that she and my fiancé were responsible for ruining my dress so they should pay for a new one.

"It's done, no longer fitting, the straps are in a horrible condition, my mom said she'd pay for fixing it but I just hate it now that someone else wore it before me.

"I'm mad at both of them and seriously considering postponing the wedding."

After the bride-to-be posted the story under the headline 'Am I the a******e for demanding my fiance and his mum pay for a new wedding dress, Reddit users jumped to her defense.

One person said: "If her fiancé won’t stick up for her to mommy now, he sure as f*** won’t when married. Lose that guy."

Another wrote: "Why would she marry a guy who went behind her back to placate his mommy? And then to let mumsy try it on? To the bride: RUN. Do not pass go, do not collect the money they owe you for the dress, just RUN. Believe me, it will be worth the money you lose now to avoid being the side chick in your fiance's relationship with his mother."

Somebody else joked: "Reminds of cinderella's ugly sisters."

While another person added: "Frankly I'd just sell the ring to recoup the losses and walk away from the whole pack of them. Why set yourself up for a lifetime of this?"

The "disgusted" bride-to-be says she "can't even look at the dress anymore" and vowed: "I'm done tolerating her behavior and letting her disrespect me like this, My fiancé is a 100 times worse than she is and he's the one who started this."
