Forget Santa, it seems the most exciting thing about the festive season is the Christmas sandwich.
With more than two months to go before the big day, popular food chains’ Christmas specials are already cropping up on shelves – and office workers couldn’t be happier to see them.
Chuffed shoppers have been sharing snaps of their festive snacks on social media after spying they’d arrived early at deli counters in branches of Marks & Spencer and Boots.
Festive fillings up for grabs this year include parsnip fritter and butternut squash, a classic turkey feast, and smoked salmon and soft cheese.

Twitter user Mark Campion bought himself a smoked salmon and soft cheese sandwich from Boots, but thought it was much too early to be selling festive food.

@SimplySophie23 seemed thrilled to buy her first Christmas sandwich, choosing to buy a turkey, bacon and stuffing one from Boots.
‘Happy First Christmas Sandwich of the Year Day!!’ she wrote.
Another person to get the turkey, bacon and stuffing sandwich was @TomJsays, who shared a snap of it on the shelves in Boots.

Some 8.6 million Britons have already started their festive shopping, a survey by American Express found.
Almost half (49 per cent) of people start shopping early to pick up presents in the sales, while year-on-year data shows more Britons are getting a head start on shopping – since 2016 an extra 1.1 million people have started shopping with 100 days to go, the study shows.
