Inside Loose Women star Carol McGiffin’s beautiful marriage to Mark – from wedding to age gap

Loose Women panelist Carol McGiffin revealed she married her long-term partner Mark Cassidy in Thailand in 2018, in a secret wedding.

The star has been dating her partner Mark for quite some time, but what you might not know is he's 22 years his wife's junior.

The loved up couple always look to be having a lot of fun together, and Carol's most recent snap with Mark came in August, as they enjoyed a sunny trip away.

"Thirteen years together today. Happy anniversary my love, my life," she penned as they beamed at the camera.

So, just who is Carol's beau and how did they meet? Let's take a look…

Who is Carol McGiffin's husband Mark?

Carol is 61 years old while Mark is 37, but age is just a number for the sweet couple.

The TV star has previously hit out at critics of her age gap with Mark, saying in her Best column: "Some people will never get their heads around the idea that an older woman can make it work with a younger man.

"It can work – I'm living proof of that, as Mark and I are coming up to nine years together, and we're stronger than ever.

"Anyone who doesn't like the idea should shut their mouth, because it's not your life, it's ours. We're the only ones who need to worry about our ages."

Despite the Loose Women star often posting photos of the pair together on social media and speaking openly about their relationship, Mark's profession is unknown as he prefers to remain largely out of the spotlight.

The couple have no children together, and Carol previously cited this as the key to their "great life" together.

The Loose Women panellist has also said how Mark has been her "absolute rock" during her cancer battle.

Opening up on her cancer battle, she said: "I knew straight away what it was. As soon as I got home I got it checked out, I wouldn't let Mark come with me.

"I knew in my heart the diagnosis and I was fine hearing it."

The couple reportedly went to the pub and got "roaring drunk" after the diagnosis.

In 2008 Mark proposed to Carol, with the pair revealing in 2017 that their wedding would go ahead in 2018.

Prior to her engagement to Mark, Carol was married to radio presenter Chris Evans between 1991 and 1998.

Carol and Mark married in a secret "low key" ceremony in Bankok in 2018.

The presenter revealed that she’d been keeping the secret for a year after tying the knot.

She told Best magazine: "No one knew we were going to do it, but we’ve basically spent the last year having separate celebrations with different friends and family and telling them all in person. Now they all know, we’re ready for it to come out."

Carol revealed how she had planned to have the wedding twice before their nuptials in Bangkok, but the plans fell through.

She said: "We'd booked a register office in London for 19 January 2017, but sadly my sister died five days earlier so, of course, we cancelled it.

"We re-booked it but then changed our minds because it still didn't feel right – it was too soon.

"Part of the reason it took us so long to get married was because every time we discussed having a traditional wedding day with guests, it ran out of control and became too much."

The married couple have since returned to Thailand to celebrate their anniversary.

What has Mark said about wife Carol?

Mark is notoriously private about the pair's relationship, however, in 2015 he spoke about his parter's devastating battle with breast cancer.

In a rare interview with The Mirror, Mark said at the time: "We just took it one hurdle at a time together. When she lost her hair, when it started to fall out in the bath, I tried to keep her laughing. I would prat around in her wig. I think I looked quite good in it actually.

"Her cancer has made me really appreciate things in life and I am looking forward to taking Carol on a relaxing holiday next month.

"It will be nice to know that everything is behind us and we can just enjoy some time together."
