Inside Maisie Smith’s stunning photoshoot as she reunites with Patsy Palmer on screen – exclusive
EastEnders actress Maisie Smith, 18, exclusively chatted to OK! magazine about her reunion with Patsy Palmer, 47, who plays her on-screen mum Bianca Jackson.
Maisie, who plays Tiffany Butcher in EastEnders, said Patsy was like her “second mum” on the show and adorably told us she Patsy was a “role model”.
In her stunning floral-themed shoot with OK! magazine, Maisie spoke about reuniting with Patsy on the EastEnders set ahead of Bianca Jackson’s return to the soap this week. Take a look at Maisie’s stunning shoot, below.
Maisie made her first appearance on the BBC soap at just six years old. Speaking about her time on the show, Maisie said: "It’s all I’ve ever known really, because I don’t remember a time when I wasn’t on the show, so it’s literally my second home."
She added: "My family on the show, they were my second family, I’d leave my house in the morning and I’d go there and spend the day with my second family."
Maisie left the soap for a short amount of time in 2014. She made a brief reappearance in 2016, but came back to the soap full time in 2018 while her character, Tiffany stayed with her on-screen sister Shona McGarty, 27, who plays Whitney Dean.
Maisie’s on-screen mum Bianca Butcher on the show, is returning to the show for Whitney’s wedding this week. Speaking about her reunion with Patsy, Maisie said: "Oh, it was the weirdest experience of my life walking into the green room and seeing her after five years.
"I looked completely different, but she looked exactly the same. She looked wonderful. it was like a flashback. We just stood there and and stared at each other for a few seconds, like: ‘Is this real?’ Then we had the biggest hug.
"I wasn’t sure how we’d work together. Would it be the same? Would we have the same chemistry But we did!"
Maisie confessed she really missed Patsy, who moved to LA with family after leaving the show, on the EastEnders set. When asked if she missed Patsy, Maisie said: "Yes, especially when she moved out to LA. We spoke all the time, but actually seeing her face-to-face is weird."
Despite Maisie’s excitement for Patsy’s return, her character Tiffany may not feel the same about her mum Bianca coming back to Albert Square. Maisie explained: "Tiff’s been through so much that Bianca hasn’t been there for, so there’s tension as she needed her mum."
Tiffany may have tension with Bianca but the teen has managed to get back on her feet despite some rather dramatic storylines over the past year, which included her getting involved in a gang.
Speaking about portraying Tiff through the hard times on the show, Maisie said: "I felt really honoured that they’d given me such important storylines to show because soaps are such a great platform to raise awareness of these kind of issues."
