Millions of people around the world are finding themselves stuck inside due to the coronavirus pandemic. Here are five fun things to try if you’re self-isolating.

Learn a language

Less than 40 per cent of Brits speak a second language, so it might be time to change that.

We don’t know how long we are going to be in lockdown for, so make use of the time and do something that you will be proud of.

There are plenty of free online resources and apps that will teach you all you need to know.

Whether you’re the next Mariah Carey or tone-deaf, singing is a great stress reliever.

Get on Youtube and search for an instrumental version of your favourite song.

Or, you could search for some vocal scales or singing lessons on Youtube.

Got a karaoke machine? Even better.

Unless you are in self-isolation, your whole household can get involved.

You could do duets, have sing-offs, or make your own version of tv show ‘The Voice’ and see how many chair-turns you get.

If you practise every day, you are going to come out of lockdown and want to show off your new voice!

Virtual pub

Missing your mates? Don’t worry, there is a way you can bring some normality back.

If you have got an iPhone, use FaceTime to catch up with a group of friends all at once.

There are plenty of apps that will let you see and hear your friends from your phone, computer or tablet, including Houseparty and Zoom.

If you’re wistfully think about the good old days in the pub or nights out on the weekend, you could pour a few alcoholic drinks out while you speak.

Take it in turns to DJ, switch on some funky lights, and get up and have a boogie!

It will be just like the real thing.

Get dolled up

It can be a hit to your self-esteem to look in the mirror and see someone in a tracksuit with messy hair every day.

Why not start wearing the clothes you love again, just to sit in doors?

You could even put some makeup on and style your hair.

If getting glammed up is something you enjoy doing, there are billions of makeup Youtube tutorials to follow.
Try out different looks.

If you never normally wear red lipstick you should give it a go, or if you have always struggled with winged eyeliner now is the chance to learn.

When the pandemic is over, you will wow everyone with your makeup skills.

Tidy up

Before you roll your eyes and stop reading, tidying up can be really satisfying and fun!

In our ordinary lives we rarely stop to think about what our rooms look like because we spend very little time in them.

However, on lockdown and in self-isolation, our bedrooms become our new 24-hour homes.

Try rearranging your room to make the best use of the little space you have.

Plenty of clear floor space will make you feel less claustrophobic.

Try the Marie Kondo method when it comes to your wardrobe: get rid of anything that isn’t useful or anything that fails to bring you joy.

Put those clothes in a bag and donate them to charity.

Do the same with books, accessories, furniture, and anything that you think someone else would be grateful for.

This satisfying activity will not only declutter your room, but if done correctly it could take days and kill some time.

It’s out with the old and in with the new, they say.

If you aren’t stuck for cash, you could redecorate your room.

Most stores are still active online, so you could find furniture that you love online and order it straight to your door.

If it needs to be built at home, that’s another time-waster!

Or you could revamp some existing furniture by painting it a different colour or adding other components to it.
