‘Jeopardy!’ isn’t James Holzhauer’s first game show win: vintage video
This isn’t the first time “Jeopardy!” phenom James Holzhauer has caused a stir in the game-show world — he won nearly $60,000 during a 2014 stint on Game Show Network’s “The Chase.”
That lucky red sweater looks sorta familiar, right?
Holzhauer, the lightning-quick contestant who’s won over $1.4 million on “Jeopardy!” over a 19-game onslaught — the third-longest-running streak in the show’s history — appeared on GSN’s “The Chase” five years ago with host Brooke Burns.
On the show, borrowed from a British (ITV) format, teams of three contestants attempt to win money by challenging a quiz show genius knowns as “the chaser,” with each contestant participating in an individual “chase.”
This clip shows Holzhauer competing in the first round, and answering questions fired at him without flinching or missing a beat. In the show’s final round, he was the team leader (of two other contestants) and earned a $58,333.33 share of a $175,000 team prize.
Repeats of “The Chase” currently air at 3 p.m. weekdays on GSN, which is planning on re-airing Holzhauer’s appearance at a date to be determined.
The series originally aired on GSN from 2013-2015 as one of the highest-rated shows in the network’s history.
Holzhauer will compete to break another “Jeopardy!” record Wednesday at 7 p.m. on CBS.
