Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s defamation trial: What has happened this week as Amber takes to the stand?

Amber Heard took to the stand to testify as her civil defamation case against former partnerJohnny Depp continues.

The 36 year old actress married Johnny, 58, in 2015, but they split acrimoniously only one year later, with Amber claiming the Donnie Brasco star had been violent towards her, filing for divorce and a temporary restraining order.

The feuding exes engaged in a war of words via the press, and when their divorce was officially finalised in 2017, Amber received a $7m settlement, which she pledged to split between a children's hospital she was a patron of and a domestic violence charity.

Amber later penned a Washington Post op-ed about experiencing domestic violence, and while she didn't name the alleged perpetrator, Johnny launched a $50m libel lawsuit against her, claiming the article damaged his career and prevented him from getting roles.

The case is now being heard in a Fairfax, Virginia courtroom, where we have previously rounded up Johnny's evidence – and OK! has rounded up some of what has happened as Amber gave evidence this week.

Amber called the case the 'most difficult thing' she's been through

As she took to the stand, Amber said that she “struggled to have the words” to aptly describe how she felt about the case.

She explained: “I struggle to find the words to describe how painful this is.

“This is horrible for me to sit here for weeks and relive everything.

“This is the most painful and difficult thing I’ve ever gone through for sure.”

Amber allegedly ‘has PTSD from sexual violence by Johnny Depp’

A clinical and forensic psychologisttestified that the actress “has PTSD from sexual violence by Johnny Depp”.

Speaking to the court, psychologist Dr Dawn Hughes said that she’d diagnosed Amber with post traumatic stress disorder, which she alleged was caused by “intimate partner violence by Mr Depp”, after evaluating the actress for a total of 29 hours.

Dr Hughes then listed some sexual violence claims, which were in the notes from Bonnie Jacob’s, Amber’s therapist.

Dr Hughes said: “There were a number of incidents of sexual violence reported in this relationship. These are documented from early on in Dr Bonnie Jacob's notes.

“Where when Mr Depp was drunk or high he threw her on the bed, ripped off her night gown and tried to have sex with her. There were times when he forced her to give him oral sex, when he was angry.

“These weren't in loving moment, these were angry moments, moments of dominance, moments of him trying to get control over her.”

Amber claims that Johnny dangled their dog out of a moving car

As she took to the stand, the Aquaman actressclaimed that her ex had “dangled their dog out of a moving car window”.

Amber alleged that the incident occurred in March 2013 and that Johnny had consumed a copious amount of cocaine and alcohol.

“He grabs this teacup Yorkie and holds Boo out of the window of the moving car, and he's howling like an animal while holding the dog out the window,” she said.

Amber claims that Johnny ‘slapped’ her over a tattoo

Amber claimed thatthe first time Johnny allegedly hit her was over a conversation about a tattoo of his that read “Wino forever”.

“I laughed because I thought he was joking, and he slapped me across the face and I laughed.

“I laughed because I didn't know what else to do. I thought this must be a joke because I didn't know what else was going on.

“I just stared at him, like you're laughing still thinking that he was going to start laughing too and tell me it was a joke but he didn't.”

Amber claims that Johnny put a bottle ‘inside’ her

Amber broke down in tears as she claimed that Johnny put a bottle “inside of” her.

As she described the alleged sexual assault, Amber said that she had her back on a counter top and she initially thought that he was “punching” her but felt a pressure on her “pubic bone”.

“I don't know, I don't remember what I said, I just remember being really still, I didn't want to move,” she said.

“I remember looking at all of the broken bottles, broken glass. I remember not wanting to move because I didn't know if it was broken, I didn't know if the bottle he had inside of me was broken.”

Later she told the court: “Johnny had the bottle inside of me and was shoving it inside of me over and over again.”

Johnny has denied the allegations.

Amber has filed a counterclaim of defamation against the Sweeney Todd star, suing him for $100 million.

The trial continues.
