Most three-year-olds are content with fish fingers and beans but it appears Princess Charlotte has slightly more refined taste when it comes to afternoon snacks.

The Duchess of Cambridge revealed today that her second child loves nothing more than munching on olives – and has even been known to make pasta sauce from scratch.

Kate, 37, was speaking to pupils at Lavender Primary School in north London on Tuesday when she spilled the beans on her children’s eating habits.

She was chatting with a group of youngsters about how foods that are high in sugar can give you a brief feeling of euphoria before making your emotions come crashing down.

‘Charlotte loves olives,’ she said, and told the children that she frequently gets her two eldest children to cook with her – including their favourite ‘cheesy pasta’. 

Speaking afterwards, Matthew Kleiner-Mann, chief executive of the the Ivy Learning Trust, said: ‘She was telling us how much her children love cooking and how they cook for her. They made cheesy pasta the other day.

‘One stirs the flour, one puts the milk and butter in, and they make salads and stuff. Food is important to her and she understands the links between mental health and physical exercise.’ 

Kate has previously revealed that George and Charlotte love to ‘get their hands messy’ making pizza dough.

Mr Kleiner-Mann, who introduced Place2Be to the school when he was headteacher 13 years ago, added: ‘She was so engaging and was interested in how Place2Be fitted into the whole school community.

‘She was wonderful with the children and was keen to speak to the parents about the whole helps with their mental wellbeing too.

‘I introduced Place2Be to the school because I realised the important of counselling and mental wellbeing but didn’t have the wherewithal to do it myself.

‘The Duchess was really interested in how it worked, how Place2Be worked in a school environment and how it helps all children, not just those specifically having dealings with them day to day.’
