Kate Middleton’s most iconic looks from student to stylish Duchess as she turns 40

Throughout her time as part of The Royal Family, Kate Middleton has wowed us all with a whole host of fabulous outfits.

Whether it's off-duty jeans and a jacket or a opting for full glam on the red carpet of an event, there is nothing that the mum-of-three can't pull off.

So as the style icon turns 40 today, we're taking a trip down memory lane and remembering some of our favourite looks Kate has sported over the years…

Graduation (2005)

Kate and Prince William both graduated from the University Of St Andrews on June 15, 2005 and from this moment, we knew Kate loved a coordinating outfit.

Dressing smart for the occasion, the brunette opted for a classic white shirt, black mini skirt and a pair of black court heels – and even managed to make her graduation robe look chic.

'80s Roller Disco (2008)

In September 2008, Kate made an appearance at a charity event in London which saw her sport a look we very rarely get to see from the Duchess.

As the event had am '80s roller disco theme, Kate opted for a green sequin halter-neck top with a pair of yellow hot pants and black knee high boots.

Luckily this was before she joined The Royal Family so there was no rule breaking involved.

Wedding Day (2011)

On her wedding day on 29 April 2011, all eyes were on Kate as she stepped out of the carriage at Westminster Abbey in her princess-perfect wedding dress.

For the very special occasion, the Duchess didn't disappoint in an Alexander McQueen lace dress designed by Sarah Burton.

From the nine-foot long train to the Victorian inspired details and her borrowed Cartier tiara from The Queen, this was a historic fashion moment.

BAFTA event (2011)

How does Kate make absolutely anything look so regal and sophisticated?

Fans fell for The Duchess even more when she stepped out at a BAFTA event in Los Angeles in July 2011 wearing a floaty lilac dress by Alexander McQueen.

Kate later re-wore this fantastic gown in 2021 for Prince William's Earthshot Prize Awards ceremony.

Prince Louis' Christening (2018)

At the christening of her third child, Prince Louis, Kate made sure to dress up for the occasion in a subtle way.

Kate effortlessly teamed this Alexander McQueen dress with a hat by Jane Taylor that allowed the Duchess's smile to be centre stage.

Kate also chose to wear this white ensemble out of a means of respect, but also to mimic the outfits she wore for the christenings of Prince George and Princess Charlotte.

Rule Breaker (2019)

Being a part of The Royal Family comes with its own set of style rules and even Kate has steered away from them occasionally.

In June 2019, The mum-of-three broke a few protocols with a Barbara Casasola off-the-shoulder dress for a special event.

Not only did she bare her shoulders, but the fabric came with daring slits. We're glad she broke rules to sport this amazing outfit once again, after wearing it previously in 2016.

A Princess Diana Moment (2019)

Kate embodied her late mother-in-law Princess Diana by replicating the iconic blue 'Travolta' velvet gown that she wore to the White House in November 1985.

The mum-of-three sported a close look-a-like dress by her go-to designer Alexander McQueen for an evening reception at Buckingham Palace in December 2019.

Kate has paid tribute to Diana on multiple occasions but this has to be one of our favourite outfits.

BAFTAs (2020)

Another occasion which saw Kate wow with a classic choice was the 2020 BAFTAs, where she re-wore an iconic Alexander McQueen gown.

Sticking to the event's wardrobe suggestion of sustainability, the Duchess oozed glamour in the white and gold elegant dress.

Royal Tour (2021)

We love the Duchess the most when she makes her appearances to special events wearing some super chic ensembles that aren't necessarily show-stopping gowns.

During the Royal Tour of Scotland in May 2021, Kate made the ultimate tribute to the country by sporting a blue tartan trench coat by designer Holland Cooper.

The outfit was paired with matching blue court heels and a gold glittery skirt underneath which perfectly highlighted the gold buttons on the coat.

James Bond Premiere (2021)

How could we not include this impeccable gold sequin gown from the James Bond: No Time To Die premiere in September 2021?

Kate floated down the red carpet of the star-studded event in a flawless caped dress by another of her favourite designers, Jenny Packham.

Throughout her years as part of the famous family, Kate has shown no sign slowing down with her envious style.
