Kiss Frontman Under Fire For Assault
Kiss frontman Gene Simmons is in legal hot water after a woman filed suit against him for sexual assault.
Gene Simmons, 68, is being sued by a “Jane Doe” for allegedly making unwanted sexual advances during a November 1st interview in Highland, California.
Simmons, along with Kiss bandmate Paul Stanley, was at the San Manuel Casino location for their recently opened Rock & Brews restaurant, a chain the pair co-founded. According to court documents obtained by the Orange County Register, Jane Doe was there to interview the Kiss members when Simmons grabbed her hand and “forcefully placed it on his knee and held it on his knee.”
The woman immediately removed it, but Simmons continued to make “unwanted, unwarranted sexual advances” by reaching for her hand again and commenting that she “must use lotion.”
Court documents then state, “Defendant Simmons turned standard interview questions into sexual innuendos, which made plaintiff Doe extremely uncomfortable.” Simmons then “forcibly flicked/struck” the woman in the throat, which he gave an “incoherent explanation” for after noticing the Jane Doe’s outrage.
After the interview, Simmons and Stanley posed with Doe for pictures, where Simmons “reached toward Plaintiff Doe’s buttocks and touched it.”
“Again, Plaintiff Doe kept her composure and discreetly moved away,” according to the lawsuit. “They took the pictures, but Plaintiff Doe declined the invitation to ‘stay around’.”
A statement from the woman’s attorney, Willie W. Williams, offered nothing to identify the woman but that she was a “long-time on-air personality for a local rock station.”
“My client is embarrassed and humiliated by the incident with Mr. Simmons,” Williams said. “She filed suit because she wanted to make a strong statement that this behavior is unacceptable and she wants to see an end to this type of behavior.”
Simmons responded to the allegations via Facebook, writing he would defend himself “against any alleged charges you may have been reading about in the media.”
“For the record, I did not assault the person making these accusations in the manner alleged in the complaint or harm her in any way,” the rocker wrote.
The lawsuit was filed last Friday in Los Angeles Superior Court. A trial date has yet to be set.
