My girlfriend is drinking more every day but she won’t admit she has a problem – The Sun

DEAR DEIDRE EVERY day my girlfriend is drinking more and more.

The only thing that stops her is having no money.

I’m worried for her health.

I am 31 and she is 29. She usually drinks two or more big bottles of strong cider every evening.

Usually, I have to buy her the alcohol and she becomes verbally aggressive if I refuse.

I’m worried that it’s going to kill her unless she gets help, or at least make her very ill, but when I talk about finding support she says I’m worrying with no need.

I’m stuck.

She needs help but she is in denial big time.

DEIDRE SAYS: I realise it feels tough to weather your girlfriend’s anger if you refuse to buy her any alcohol but you are facilitating her damaging dependence on alcohol.

Tell her that you care for her too much to risk further damaging her health.

Be firm that she needs help and you’ll support her to break her habit.
