DEAR DEIDRE: MY boyfriend messages his ex and he ends it with kisses and heart emojis.

I don’t want to appear insecure but why does he need to do that?

He’s 32 and his ex is 34. She has depression.

They had a little boy together who has autism so he’s a real handful. He’s five now.

I’m 28. My boyfriend sees his son every week but I have never met him or his ex.

She is always there when he visits.

He says that he cares for her because she’s the mother of his child, but I’m the one he wants to be with.

He’s spending the day with them for his son’s sixth birthday and I’m already fretting about it.

It’s just his ex-partner I’m not sure about.

Am I right to worry?

DEIDRE SAYS: He split up with his ex for a reason unbeknown to you. But it is clear they are history, otherwise you wouldn’t be together.

If his ex is fragile because of her depression, then he’s trying to do the right thing by her and his son.

It bodes well if you are ever to have a family with him. He’s a good dad.

Suggest a day out with him and his little boy. It may then give you a better idea of what he is dealing with and why he is always being supportive of his son’s mother.
