Royal fans go wild over ‘genius’ Marks & Spencer meme featuring Meghan and Diana – as the retailer re-brands itself ‘Markle & Sparkle’ in honour of Harry’s bride

Many have drawn comparisons between Meghan and Diana ahead of the royal wedding tomorrow.

And now, royal fans have gone wild over a ‘genius’ Marks & Spencer meme featuring the pair – playing on their surnames, Markle and Spencer. 

The meme was created by London-based artist Freddie Smithson, who has become known for his playful Photoshopped adverts.

It comes as Marks & Spencer announced that it was re-branding as Markle & Sparkle this weekend, in honour of Meghan.

One fan commented ‘So good!, while another added: ‘Hahahaha love this’.

Another Instagram user simply added: ‘Beyond genius’. 

The British High Street retailer announced today that it was becoming Markle & Sparkle for one weekend to celebrate the royal wedding.

The Windsor branch of M&S is a focus of the re-brand, with the new signage unveiled there overnight.

Harry and Meghan are expected to pass the store during their wedding procession tomorrow, following the ceremony at St George’s Chapel.

Instagram users were quick to comment on the meme, describing it as ‘genius’ 

The Windsor store’s windows has been decked out in the colours of the Union flag, with Percy and Penny pig characters helping celebrate the unveiling today. 

The retailer said the re-brand was its way of capturing the excitement of ‘receiving a real-life Hollywood princess into our royal family’.  

Customers will be able to take advantage of in-store Markle & Sparkle selfie booths and send messages via its social channels, all of which will be made into a virtual wedding album and sent to Kensington Palace.

Sharry Cramond, marketing director of food and hospitality at M&S, said: ‘As a quintessentially British brand we had to do something special to mark the royal wedding, and what better way to welcome Meghan to the family than to ‘marry’ both our names together for the weekend.

‘As a retailer, we’ve celebrated 34 royal weddings over our 134-year history, but this is the boldest idea we’ve delivered yet.

‘We wanted to spark a smile from Harry and Meghan on their big day and capture the excitement and celebratory mood of the nation on receiving a real-life Hollywood princess into our royal family.’
