Taylor Swift donates $15,500 to fan whose mom is in a coma

Music superstar Taylor Swift broke her long-standing rule of not discussing politics by posting on Instagram her endorsement for Democrat Phil Bredesen who's running to replace Sen. Bob Corker of Tennessee.

Taylor Swift has consistently used her wealth to help others – supporting sexual assault victims, a fan with leukemia, a firefighter’s injured family, victims of the 2016 Tennessee wildfires, and, most notably, donating $250,000 to Kesha during her court battle with Dr. Luke.

Swift’s most recent charitable act was a $15,500 donation she made to a GoFundMe, which is seeking to raise money to support the family of Idaho mom Lauriann Bartell, who has been in a coma for the last three years.

“They are worried about losing their home and keeping up with everyday expenses,” the GoFundMe reads, listing a goal amount of $40,000.

In a tweet earlier this month, Bartell’s daughter Sadie, who is a huge Swift fan, tweeted a link to the GoFundMe, asking for financial support and thanking Swift for her inspiration through the years.

Swift apparently caught wind of the cause as her name appeared on the GoFundMe page along with a $15,500 donation this weekend, with the accompanying note, “Love, Taylor, Meredith and Olivia Swift,” in honor of her two cats.

Sadie Bartell thanked Swift in a Facebook note on Oct. 20, writing that Swift “just gave my family exactly what we need to carry on.”

“Today (Swift) read my family’s story online and out of the goodness of her heart donated to us,” Bartell wrote. “She shows up every time I need her. She always has and she always will. I wish that I could express how much it means to me that ANYONE has helped my family over the years, let alone Taylor. She is the light at the end of the tunnel and is truly the best thing that has ever happened to me.”

The GoFundMe has now raised over $26,000 of its $40,000 goal.
