Tesco has introduced a new initiative called Clubcard Pay. The debit card allows customers to claim extra points when shopping at Tesco, as well as rewarding spending at other shops.
Clubcard Pay is Tesco Bank’s new prepaid debit card.
It is available for current and new customers of Tesco’s Clubcard loyalty scheme.
While using Clubcard Pay, shoppers can get double Clubcard points for three months, as well as other perks.
The initiative is a debit card that can be pre-loaded with cash from another bank account.
Although there is no overdraft, shoppers can treat it as a normal debit card, which means it can be used for spending in shops and online and to make withdrawals.
The card is linked to customers’ Tesco Clubcard, which means that any spending will earn them points.
With Clubcard Pay, shoppers can receive two Clubcard points for every £1 spent in Tesco and on Tesco Fuel.
Usually, Clubcard holders only earn one point for every £1 spent.

The new card offers double points when customers first sign up, but only for the first three months after opening an account.
After three months, shoppers will receive one point for every £1 spent, in the same way as usual Clubcard holders.
But the new card can be used in other stores too, not just at Tesco.
Shoppers will receive one point for every £8 spent in other shops.
There are other features to the card too.
Clubcard Pay allows customers to monitor their spending using the Tesco Bank mobile app.
They can also round up their spending to the nearest pound and the app sets aside this extra amount in a separate savings pot to be used in the future.
This money earns an interest rate of 0.1 percent but can also be transferred to other accounts to get higher returns.
All shoppers need to do to open an account with Clubcard Pay is to sign up on the Tesco website.
They should provide an email address, password, and an image of their passport or driving licence to prove their identity.
After that, Tesco Bank will send customers a Visa debit card and PIN number through the post.
Clubcard Pay is currently a trial, running until autumn.
Only 20,000 people in the UK will be able to sign up for a card at this stage, but come autumn, the scheme will be available to all.
In other Tesco news, the supermarket giant has announced a pay rise to all its staff, which will come into place in September.
The food retailer will up its employees’ hourly rate from £9.30 to £9.55.
