The National Fish and Chip Awards are scouting out the tastiest spots for battered cod.

And ahead of crowning the winner in January, judges have released 20 locations that have made the shortlist.

Two Hertfordshire locations have impressed the panel.

The Walnut Tree in Milton Keynes is one of the eateries to get tongues wagging.

It offers up a wide menu, serving extras such as pineapple fritters and mac and cheese bites.

The quirky chippie is facing off against local rival Fiddlers Elbow.

The Leintwardine venue has placed in the National Fish & Chip Awards top 60 for two years in a row – so it’s bound to be a contender.

Other chippies to look out for include French’s Fish Shop in Norfolk and Seafare Guildford in Surrey.

The former is located right by the seaside and has been welcoming customers for 90 years.

Meanwhile, the latter prepares its dishes fresh every day.

Surprisingly, you can even bag delicious fish and chips in the capital.

Even though it’s not by the coast, Belmont Bay in Harrow has made the shortlist.
