How to get your kitchen AND laundry sink sparkling: The two-ingredient trick that gets rid of dirt, grease and paint – leaving homeowners amazed
- A painter from Victoria was sick of getting a build up of grime in her sink
- While the paints she uses are waterproof they can still combine to mark metals
- The mother decided to try the foil and dishwasher tablet cleaning method
- To her great surprise it transformed her laundry sink in a matter of hours
A mother, who is a painter by trade, was growing sick of ‘spending a couple of hours’ scrubbing residual dyes out of her laundry sink each day.
The Victoria-based woman had heard about a two-ingredient cleaning method that claimed to get rid of stains, dirt and grease with minimal effort, so she decided to put it to the test.
By wrapping the sink in foil, filling it half way with hot water and adding five dishwashing tablets her metal appliance came up looking ‘like new’.

AFTER: Incredibly by wrapping the sink in foil, filling it half way with hot water and adding five dishwashing tablets her metal appliance came up looking ‘like new’
‘I’m a furniture artist and though the paints and sealers I use are eco-friendly, water-based and don’t contain the usual nasties they still build up and can be incredible hard to remove,’ the woman explained in a Facebook group.
‘Normally I’d spend a couple of hours scrubbing the sink every month or so.’
But by leaving the foil and tablets in her sink for five hours and doing ‘two minutes of light scrubbing’, the marks vanished.
Other mothers have grasped the idea of the hack and employed it to clean their ovens.

The cleaning hack can be used on any part of the oven that can be removed – with testers thus far showing off how it has transformed their oven racks, oven door windows, and even their oven door handles.
To begin, pull out each piece from the oven completely, and wrap each one individually in foil.
Then, fill a bathtub full of hot water and put the foil-wrapped oven parts under the water.
A mother found a clever way to clean her oven by pulling out different parts, wrapping them individually with foil and then soaking them in a bathtub of hot water and a dishwasher tablet
Using the simple trick, the woman managed to remove years of baked-in grease with nothing more than foil, water, and a dishwasher tablet
She shared amazing results of her cleaned oven online, including the now-transparent glass window that was once covered in grease and what appeared to be smoke
The handle also had a deep clean after she let it soak in her crafty DIY treatment
‘I ran the bath (hot water only),’ the woman who revealed the clever hack explained. ‘I wrapped the racks in foil then submerged them in the bath.’
If your racks and other oven parts don’t stay submerged, some people suggest placing bottles of shower gel or shampoo on top of them to keep them weighed down.

From there, the rest is incredibly easy.
‘Simply place a dishwashing tablet on top of the wrapped racks. Then I leave them alone for two hours,’ the woman continued.
‘I went back and while leaning over the bath, I wiped the racks with magic eraser.
‘No elbow grease or much effort at all.’
The hack – which works so efficiently because of a chemical reaction between the foil and the dishwasher tablet – has quickly taken the internet by storm, with homeowners everywhere trying the treatment out for themselves, before taking to social media to share their incredible results.
People are even making their own special tweaks to the method in order to try and make it all the more effective.
One woman, who pulled out her racks and trays, as well as removing the glass oven door completely, explained that she added bicarbonate soda to the water, and allowed the parts to soak for longer than than the two hours.

Once each part of the oven has been wrapped up in foil, whether it’s the glass, the handle, or the racks, you have to place it in the tub for two hours to soak with a dishwasher tablet
The two-hour process will also leave your bathtub sparkling (pictured right) while cleaning the oven racks and any other pieces of the oven you manage to remove
‘Left mine for 3.5 hours with Fairy tablet and bicarb,’ she said. ‘This is years of grime. They have never been this clean,’ she said.
She shared amazing results of her squeaky clean oven, including the now-transparent glass window.
Another woman admitted she was initially ‘skeptical’ after reading about the cleaning ‘hack’ but even she was stunned to find her racks left sparkling after the soak.
‘Use what you have, no need to buy more products,’ she suggested.

After draining her bathtub, the woman also added that she found no grease stains left behind – and her bathtub actually looked as good as new.
‘My bath is fine, it just wiped off,’ she noted.
And if you don’t own a dishwasher, or don’t have any dishwasher tablets handy – fret not. Other mothers suggested using laundry detergent or even barbecue grill cleaner, explaining that the hack is just as effective with these substitute ingredients.
