Victory in Europe Day, also known as VE Day, takes place on May 8, and this year marks the 75th anniversary since World War 2 ended. The bank holiday will, unfortunately, have to be spent at home with members of your household as lockdown restriction are still in place due to the coronavirus pandemic. However, you can enjoy VE Day at home by making handmade bunting.
How to make union jack bunting for VE Day
Time to make: Approximately one hour
What you need
- Fabric Bunting
- Fabric Pens
- Coloured Satin Ribbon Value Pack

Method – Union Jack bunting flag
Take a bunting flag and use a red pen to draw and colour in a vertical line and a horizontal line to make a red cross.
It’s might be worth using a ruler to get the lines straight, but if you like the homemade look, this can be dropped.
Use the red pen again, this time to draw a diagonal line out from the centre of the cross in each of the four spaces, remembering to leave a white border.
To complete the union jack colour in the rest of the spaces with a blue fabric pen, but remember to leave the white border.

Repeat steps one to three to create as many bunting flags as you would like.
Cut a long strip of thin ribbon, preferably in blue, white or red, and thread it through the holes in the top of the bunting flags.

For example, you can use your red and blue pens to write VE Day onto it or you can write Victory in Europe Day.
