When Will Royal Baby Archie Make His Second Public Appearance?

Archie Harrison Windsor-Mountbatten is officially two weeks old today. Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, gave birth to her and Prince Harry’s first child, on May 6, 2019, at Portland Hospital. Archie made his first public appearance at two days old during a photocall alongside inside St. George’s Hall at Windsor Castle. But when will the world get their second glimpse of Archie?

When will Archie make his second public appearance?

To answer this question, we must refer to the past. Particularly, what Harry’s older brother, Prince William, and his wife, Kate Middleton, did with their three children when they were born.

Their children are Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. With all three of the births, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge followed tradition, likely because of William’s standing as second in the line of succession.

The children made their first public appearances on the steps on the maternity wing, the Lindo Wing, at St. Mary’s Hospital in London. They followed in the footsteps of Prince Charles and Princess Diana, who started the tradition with Prince William and continued it with Prince Harry.

Publicly, the Cambridge children were seen on multiple occasions in their newborn days. Prince Louis, the youngest of the Cambridge children, has been seen the least, since being born on April 23, 2018.

About three months after the birth of Prince Louis, the public got their second glimpse of him during his christening on July 9, 2018. But after that, the public didn’t see much of Prince Louis aside from a few photographs that were released by the royal family.

It’s likely that the same level of privacy Prince William and Middleton  assured their children in their first year of life will be applied to baby Archie by his parents. We can assume that if Archie is christened (nothing has been confirmed) the public will get a glimpse of the newborn just like Prince Louis last summer.

It’s also safe to assume the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will be very choosy about the appearances their son makes this year. As two people who have spoken about the importance of privacy and raising their kids as normal as possible, attending many royal events will not be on Archie’s agenda.

We can also assume — or at least hope — we’ll see a few photographs of baby Archie on Prince Harry and Markle’s Instagram (We’re already looking forward to a post on Thanksgiving of the new family of three).

Prince Harry and Markle shared a photograph of Archie on their Instagram in honor of Mother’s Day. The snapshot only showed the baby royal’s feet and what appeared to be Markle’s hand.

Other than his possible christening, there aren’t any events in the foreseeable future that an appearance by Archie would be expected. Like Prince William and Middleton’s children, Archie may join his parents on a royal tour in the near future.

Whatever happens, we’ll be excited to watch Archie grow.
