Why Meghan Markle isn’t wearing her engagement ring on her Africa tour
Meghan Markle‘s ditching her sparkle — temporarily, that is.
The Duchess of Sussex, 38, is currently on her royal tour of Africa with Prince Harry, and appears to have left her engagement ring at home for the trip.
In place of her three-diamond sparkler and matching eternity band — the latter believed to either be a push present received after the birth of baby Archie or an anniversary gift — Markle is wearing her simple Welsh gold wedding band along with a Jennifer Meyer turquoise marquise ring ($250).
A source told Hello! that there’s a good reason why the duchess opted for subtler jewelry during her royal tour: She wants to be “low key” during her meet-and-greets with the public.
As for why she selected a piece by Meyer as a stand-in? Markle’s a longtime fan of the LA jeweler, whose other celebrity clients include Taylor Swift, Jennifer Aniston, Katie Holmes and many more.
The Duchess of Sussex owns a number of turquoise gems by the designer, including some dainty earrings ($395), a three-stone necklace ($750) and diamond marquise studs ($600), the latter of which she’s also been wearing during her Africa tour appearances thus far.
Meyer is also the maker of Markle’s gold “mommy” nameplace necklace ($850), which she most likely received as a gift during her star-studded NYC baby shower back in February.
