Woman dresses up as Disney character everyday using clothes she already has
A wannabe princess is making lockdown much more fun by dressing up as a different Disney character each day, using just the clothes she already has in her house.
Isabel Burrows, is proving that Disney dress-up needn’t be expensive or complicated. And she is fashioning outfits to match her favourite characters by raising her wardrobes.
The 22-year-old has been a hardcore Disney fan since she was a little girl, and now she’s using lockdown as an opportunity to become as many of her favourite characters as possible.
So far, Isabel has embodied Mary Poppins, Cruella, Ariel and Smee, with clever costumes.
She has also donned outfits for Peter Pan and John Darling, Alice in Wonderland’s Alice, The Princess and the Frog’s Tiana, and Beauty and the Beast’s Belle.
‘I have been obsessed with Disney for as long as I can remember, she says.
‘I thought – “I’m going to challenge myself to come up with these looks.”
‘Now Disney Plus has come out, I have been watching 24/7. I wanted to do something fun to keep busy.’
Isabel already had Ariel and Belle costumes at home before lockdown began, and she has been to one Comicon event, but the rest were made from what she could find around the house.
But this primary school teacher is used to being creative and said she has collected various costume items from school dressing up days.
For World Book Day she went as Smee from Peter Pan.
‘I have had to make some props so I am getting my arts and crafts out too,’ she added.
Isabel, from Felpham, West Sussex, saw a colleague posting homework videos where he dressed up and she decided she wanted to get involved.
‘Disney gives that safe space to be able to just not think about what is going on in the world,’ she said.
‘There’s a real sense of escapism for me.’
We could certainly all do with a little escapism at a time like this. Isabel says she will carry on until she runs out of ideas – although she is steering clear of Rapunzel because she lives in a village called ‘Corona’.
‘I want to keep people smiling and it is keeping me busy thinking about how I am going to create this look and what I can do next,’ she said.
‘My dad takes the photos – I love him to bits. He is up for it but he doesn’t know who any of the characters are!’
Her favourite character is Beauty and the Beast’s Belle.
‘She is the dream character to play for anything,’ she said.
‘Beauty and the Beast is my favourite Disney film. It’s got me through. She is so strong and independent.’
Isabel adds that she is really fussy with her photos, and she gets her dad to take hundreds of pics before she finds one she’s happy with.
But the hard work pays off, and Isabel is spreading joy by posting the pictures to her instagram account with the hashtag #lockdownlooks.
