LIVERPOOL have reportedly made Nicolas Pepe their priority signing for this summer as Lille president Gerard Lopez has confirmed talks between the sides.

The 24-year-old netted a staggering 22 goals and assisted a further 11 as the French club finished second to Paris Saint-Germain in Ligue 1.

And his fine form has attracted the interest of many clubs including Manchester United and Arsenal, but Liverpool are leading the race for the Ivorian's signature.

Lille president Lopez told RMC Sport: “I know there have been discussions with the player, not with us as a club.

“Liverpool have players in those positions and I read that maybe there were players who could leave, or not.

“I am not particularly focused on Liverpool. But it is true that there have been discussions with agents.”

KEVIN NOLAN claims West Ham are “doing the best thing ever” by selling Marko Arnautovic to the Chinese Super League.

The ex-Newcastle midfielder told Friday's Sports Breakfast: “As a former skipper I think he’d be a bit of a nightmare to handle.

“When I’ve spoken to Nobes [Mark Noble] he says how much of a great lad he is.

“But from what I’ve heard of him, in the dressing room when it’s not going his way he shows it and lets everyone know.

“He wants it his own way and if he doesn’t get it he spits the dummy out of the pram.

“I think West Ham are doing the best thing ever in getting him out of the club, moving on and getting the money for him.”

GERMAN goalkeeper Markus Schubert snubbed an Arsenal transfer in order to sign for Schalke.

Unai Emery is in the market for a new stopper following Petr Cech's retirement at the end of last season.

Gunners chiefs wanted the 21-year-old to act as competition for countryman Bernd Leno, who was handed the No1 jersey for the upcoming season.

However, German outlet SPORT1 claim Schubert cancelled his move to the Emirates in order to sign for Schalke from Dynamo Dresden and replace Alexander Nubel, 22, who looks set to leave.
