Tottenham are desperate to land a new striker by Friday — but chairman Daniel Levy has set a £10million limit.

Spurs manager Jose Mourinho, who has agreed a £27m deal for PSV Eindhoven winger Steven Bergwijn, is hoping to see a stand-in for crocked Harry Kane arrive this window.

But chairman Levy, who yesterday turned Giovani Lo Celso’s loan from Real Betis into a permanent £27m deal, is infuriating other clubs by not getting anywhere near their asking fees.

Levy only wanted to pay Milan £10m for Krzysztof Piatek even though they rate him at three times that figure.

And he was only willing to shell out the same amount for Real Sociedad’s Willian Jose, even though he is available for £21m.

Spurs are also looking at Benfica’s £15m- rated Haris Seferovic.

Tottenham are expected to complete a move for Steven Bergwijn on Wednesday, according to Sky Sports.

The Dutch winger has been in London undergoing a medical ahead of a reported £25.6m deal plus add-ons.

Spurs will look to seal the move and make him their second signing of the month, having already acquired Gedson Fernandes.

It would come just a day after they let Christian Eriksen leave for Inter Milan, while also completing the permanent move of Giovani Lo Celso.

Atletico Madrid will not let Thomas Lemar leave this month, despite interest from the Premier League.

Spurs are among a host of clubs that have been linked with a move for the Frenchman – who has struggled since moving to Spain in 2018.

But the La Liga giants want him to stay, after the club's chief executive Gil Martin told Goal: “Lemar is not for sale. There is no way he can change.”

The 24-year-old has managed just ten starts in all competitions this season, leading to rumours of a move, with Chelsea, Arsenal and Man Utd also linked.

Juventus midfielder has reportedly turned down the likes of Arsenal, Man Utd and Spurs in favour of Borussia Dortmund.

According to Football Italia, the German ace has agree terms with the Bundesliga side in a deal worth £22million.

Can is free to leave Turin after Maurizio Sarri omitted him from his Champions League squad.

Former Spurs striker Darren Bent had urged defender Cameron Carter-Vickers to seek a permanent move away from the club.

Speaking of the former Stoke loanee to Football Insider, he said: “I played against him when he was at Ipswich Town and he was okay.

“He’s a big, powerful kid but I’ve said it before, it gets to a time where it gets to a point where loans aren’t doing you any good – you can’t settle anywhere.

“You need to go somewhere, settle and then try to forge a career at that club and kick on. If you’re always on the move and never really settle, you’re not going to get the best out of yourself.

“He needs to go somewhere, sign permanently, play week in, week out and then go from there and if that means you have to go a league down then that’s what you have to do. First, you have to get the consistency not on the pitch but in your life.”
