Arsenal are eyeing a move for Borussia Dortmund defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos.
The Gunners are reportedly ready to overhaul their backline this summer, despite not settling on a replacement for Arsene Wenger.
Papastathopoulos has impressed for Dortmund this term and Arsenal head of recruitment Sven Mislintat is a big fan.
The Independent reports he has close ties with the players’ agent and will look to thrash through a deal.
He won’t be the only target with another four defenders believed to be wanted.
Extortionate ticket prices for Wenger’s final game
Tickets for Arsene Wenger’s final home match in charge of Arsenal are being sold for £1,800.
Wenger, who is bringing down the curtain on his 22-year Arsenal reign at the end of the season, will take to the home dugout as manager for the last time on Sunday when Burnley travel to the Emirates Stadium.
The match is a Category C fixture – the lowest of three tiers in Arsenal’s official Premier League ticketing structure – with prices ranging from £26 to £38.50.
The club’s website crashed in the moments after Wenger announced he would be leaving last month as Arsenal fans scurried to buy the final remaining tickets for the historic match.
But supporters without a ticket now face having to spend well over the odds to see the 68-year-old Frenchman’s last home game.
Ticketbis, a secondary ticketing online market, claims to have a range of seats available from £143 to a staggering £1,800.
The most expensive tickets are being advertised in the lower tier of the East and West Stands at the Emirates Stadium, which would have been sold to supporters for just £28.50. The ticketing website also claims prices for the match are increasing.
Dortmund ‘beat Arsenal to Favre’
Borussia Dortmund believe they have beaten Arsenal to Lucien Favre, according to reports.
The Nice boss is one of the names that was on Arsenal’s initial wish list as potential replacements for Arsene Wenger.
But Bild are reporting that Dortmund believe they have got their man ahead of this summer.
Arsenal were reportedly aware that they could get Favre off his contract at Nice for between €3million and €5million and that tempted them into a deal.
However, it is looking like he is set for Dortmund.
