Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira set for top European job
Patrick Vieira is reportedly set to take over as the new manager of Nice.
The Arsenal legend has been in charge of New York City FC since 2016 and before that was part of the coaching team at Manchester City.
It is believed Nantes are also interested in the 41-year-old but according to French newspaper L’Equipe , Nice have stolen a march.
They expect to lose current boss Lucien Favre to Borussia Dortmund and have earmarked Vieira as his replacement.
The report claims that talks are at an advanced stage and Vieira could be unveiled in the coming days.
Mike Arteta meanwhile is expected to be officially announced as Arsena’s new manager in the next 48 hours.
The Spaniard emerged as the frontrunner when Juventus boss Max Allegri ruled himself out and former Barcelona manager Luis Enrique proved too expensive.
Enrique’s sky-high wage demands of £15million-a-year AFTER TAX – which would cost the Gunners in excess of £25m-a-year and dwarfs the outgoing Wenger’s £8m annual salary – is one of the reasons they are looking at a younger option to fit into a revamped structure as a head coach rather than a manager.
