Arsenal and Liverpool go head to head to snap up rising Premier League keeper

Southampton keeper Alex McCarthy is being monitored by Arsenal, Liverpool and Premier League new boys Wolves.

The 28-year-old Saint has been watched by all three, who are all looking to strengthen their goalkeeping departments.

McCarthy joined Southampton for £3.5million in 2016.

In comes after the news Liverpool are interested in bringing Pepe Reina back to Anfield – but not as their No.1.

The Spaniard spent eight successful years at Anfield before a loan spell at Napoli and a season with Bayern Munich before returning to Naples.

He has been their No.1 since 2015 but his former club Liverpool are interested in signing him as back-up to Loris Karius.

Liverpool chiefs believe the experienced Reina could help guide the gaffe-prone Karius but no bid has been made.

Roma’s highly-rated Alisson is Jurgen Klopp’s first-choice but Liverpool fear they will be priced out of a move.

The Italian giants are reluctant to sell the Brazilian after they allowed Mo Salah to leave for £35million.

The Egyptian forward has scored 43 goals for Liverpool this season and helped knock his former side out of the Champions League at the semi-final stage.
