Arsenal star Hector Bellerin's bad form is down to his vegan diet, claims Alan Brazil

The talkSPORT host blasted the Spain full-back and his eating choices after the Gunners crashed out of the Europa League semi-finals to Atletico Madrid.

Bellerin, 23, switched to the plant-based diet at the start of the season and claims he has more energy on and off the pitch since changing.

But the popular radio host is adamant Bellerin needs to gorge on a steak to start finding his form again.

Speaking on his Sports Breakfast show with Ally McCoist, Brazil said: "Get a steak down you, pal! Bellerin, that steak down you raw! That'll help.

"He was a good player but he's gone. I don't know what's happened to him."

Quizzed on whether he thinks Bellerin's slump is down to his eating habits, Brazil said: "I do.

"Look at [Diego] Costa – do you think he has a Caesar salad every Sunday lunch?

"Vegans don't say 'Hi, how're you doing?' they say, 'Hi, I'm a vegan'. They get it in first."

Bellerin claims he no longer has to strap up his ankles to play since going vegan.

He said: "I’ve been vegan since the beginning of the season more or less.

"At the beginning I wanted to try it for a couple of weeks to detox my body and stuff, but I just felt so great after it that I’ve been doing it for six months now.

"For me the most important thing is that inflammation in my body after games and the speed that my body recovers compared to before.

"I’ve always had little problems in my ankles when I played very hard games, they’d get very inflamed and stiff. Now I don’t even have to strap them to play anymore."
