Manchester United will have to fight off Spanish clubs to net Jerome Boateng
Manchester United will have to fight off interest from Spanish sides in their attempt to sign Jerome Boateng, writes Mirror Football’s Alex Smith.
Bayern Munich centre back Boateng has become a defensive target for United after growing frustrated by the brick wall in their pursuit of Tottenham ace Toby Alderweireld.
But according to German publication Kicker, former Manchester City star Boateng would prefer a switch to La Liga.
Boateng has made it clear that he may want to depart the Allianz Arena this summer, with Bayern insisting they would not stand in his way if he does push for the exit.
“His thoughts about leaving Bayern still exist, as his agent has told me," Bayern’s chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said.
“We know that this topic might be approaching. When a club is interested and Jerome says that he wants to join this club, we will consider it.
“I don’t hide the fact that we have a financial threshold, but it won’t be low for sure. But I know that Jerome is thinking about leaving.”
Manchester United target Marco Verratti told to lose weight
Paris Saint-Germain star Marco Verratti has been told he needs to lose weight by new boss Thomas Tuchel , writes Mirror Football’s Thomas Bristow.
The all action midfielder has a free summer after Italy failed to qualify for this summer’s World Cup and is one of the first players to have met his new manager.
Verratti, 25, is a highly talented footballer and is the target of many top European clubs, including Manchester United.
The Italian’s agent also happens to be Mino Raiola, who also represents Romelu Lukaku, Paul Pogba and Henrikh Mkhitraryan.
According to Calcio Mercato , Verratti and Tuchel recently met in Paris ahead of the new season.
The report adds that the German is a stickler for nutrition and carefully managing the diet of his stars. Shortly after taking on his new role at the Ligue 1 club, Tuchel wanted to know weight of each of his players.
It appears that he didn’t like what he saw in Verratti and proceeded to tell the midfielder he needs to lose weight.
