How Baker Mayfield and girlfriend celebrated draft night

Baker Mayfield wasn’t inside AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, when NFL commissioner Roger Goodell read his name aloud, as the first overall pick by the Browns. Instead, the former Oklahoma quarterback was three hours away in Lakeway, celebrating the life-changing moment with family and girlfriend Emily Wilkinson.

“Congrats baby. I’m so proud of you. Here we go!!!!! #MMO #clevelandbrowns,” Wilkinson posted on Instagram on Thursday, embracing Mayfield, 23, shortly after he learned his fate.

An undersize signal-caller, Mayfield’s stock continued to rise leading up to the night of the draft, despite previous reports of the Browns being all-in on USC product Sam Darnold, whom the Jets selected at No. 3.

Clad in a white hoodie with the phrase “walk on” (he was a non-scholarship player when he transferred to Oklahoma) stitched in the middle, last year’s Heisman Trophy winner and two-time walk-on proudly rocked a Dawg Pound cap as he posed poolside with his brother, Matt.

“CLEVELAND!! Let’s do this!! Excited to be apart of the @clevelandbrowns!” Mayfield shared on social media, later writing, “Starts with family. Ends with family. Never would’ve gotten here without them!!”

Mayfield was first linked to Wilkinson earlier this year, when the couple made their debut at a January Clippers game, following Oklahoma’s crushing 54-48 loss to Georgia in the playoffs at the Rose Bowl. As the quarterback embarks on the next chapter of his playing career, he remains grateful Wilkinson is at his side.

“Love you so muchhhh,” Mayfield commented on Wilkinson’s post from Thursday night. “Let’s go take on this journey together!!!”
