Ballon d'Or: Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Kevin De Bruyne among first 10 nominees for 2018 award

The names are being announced by France Football with this seen as the most open race in years.




The Parisian publication are drip-feeding their nominations as the day goes on.

Defending winner Cristiano Ronaldo was named in the second wave, after 38 goals in 39 games for Real Madrid, Juve and Portugal so far this year.

Bale scored one of the greatest goals in Champions League final history as Los Blancos defeated Liverpool 3-1 in Kiev.

The Welshman, 29, has had his fair share of injury troubles, but has been absolutely devastating at times for both club and country.

Meanwhile Manchester City record goalscorer Sergio Aguero has made the list after a superb season with Pep Guardiola's side, while team-mate De Bruyne is also in the frame.

Roberto Firmino had another superb season at Anfield and helped fire the Reds into last season's Champions League final.
